Job Type: Full-Time

Department: Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Schedule: Varied Day Shifts – Monday to Friday with on-call, weekend, and holiday coverage

Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 (for eligible external hires)

Salary Range: $80,000 – $120,000 annually


Position Summary

The Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) works under the supervision of an Invasive Cardiologist and Nurse Manager to assist with diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and electrophysiology procedures. This role utilizes specialized imaging and monitoring equipment to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of cardiovascular disease, while ensuring the highest levels of patient safety and comfort.

Primary responsibilities include equipment setup, patient monitoring, documentation, and acting as a scrub assistant during procedures involving ionizing radiation for cardiac, electrophysiology, and vascular interventions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral catheterization procedures.
  • Prepare patients for cardiac, electrophysiology, and peripheral procedures, and assist during pre-, intra-, and post-procedure phases.
  • Set up procedure rooms and gather required equipment based on physician preferences.
  • Support analytical calculations and interpretive measurements for diagnostic accuracy.
  • Apply standards and protocols for cost-effective, high-quality patient care.
  • Interpret electrocardiograms and hemodynamic pressure tracings.
  • Provide inpatient Cath Lab support including sheath removal, groin management, IABP transport, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with electrophysiology studies and device implant procedures.
  • Serve as preceptor for new staff and clinical interns.
  • Record and maintain accurate procedural documentation and logs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in modalities such as IVUS, ICE, FFR, IFR, RFR, OCT, and other catheter-based imaging technologies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of interventional tools including balloons, stents, and guide catheters.
  • Oversee inventory management, ordering, and quality control of equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure infection control compliance and proper handling of sterile instruments.
  • Identify and report equipment issues, initiate service requests, and maintain operational readiness.
  • Participate in billing review and charge audit processes.
  • Contribute to departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiatives.
  • Work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays, as department needs require.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and departmental operations.


Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of an accredited scrub technician or hospital-based training program.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a scrub or cardiac technician preferred.
  • RCIS certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and commitment to ongoing professional development.
