Position Title: Technical Writer

Position Location: This position is currently remote and Arlington VA State Department campus. Candidates must reside in the DMV area to be considered.


Daily Responsibilities:

  • Prepare instruction manuals, journal articles, and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information more easily.
  • Develop, gather, and disseminate technical information among users and designers.
  • Ensures documents follow the style laid out in the organization's style guide.
  • Write, review, update and edit a variety of technical articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for documentation for a wide range of uses.
  • Review content of technical documentation for quality.
  • Produce technical and scientific illustrations for presentations and/or publication, as appropriate to the requirements.
  • Coordinates the display of graphics and the production of the document.
  • Instrumental in providing customer and documentation support.
  • Participates in corporate or customer activity meetings that are determined to be mandatory. These may include weekly meetings, Internal Program Review (IPR) meetings, ad-hoc meetings, business development meetings, manager training sessions and other meetings designated “as required.”
  • Be prepared to receive additional training for products and services that relate directly to the position.
  • Able to create Visio diagrams.
  • Able to understand and create application logic and business data diagrams.


Required Years of Experience (min):

  • Three years related experience


Required Degree/Certifications:

  • BS/BA degree OR Allowable Substitution: Additional five years of related professional experience can be substituted for a BS/BA degree.


Required Experience:

  • Three years of experience creating quality web content, IT instruction manuals, journal articles, and other IT supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A minimum of five years working in the IT software industry.


Required Clearance:

  • Secret or Ability to Obtain Secret Clearance


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $65k - $80k


Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
