About the Opportunity

Our client has built the system of record for a major B2B vertical market, serving industry leaders and backed by strategic Fortune 500 partners. They are at an inflection point, ready to build the next generation of their platform with AI at its core.

About the Role

As a key member of the executive leadership team, you won't just lead the engineering organization; you will be a crucial partner in shaping the overall strategy and future of the company. You will be at the center of their ambition to build a next-generation platform that will define the future of their industry, creating entirely new products that push the boundaries of what's possible in their category.

Today, the engineering organization is composed of two high-performing teams: a senior, high-caliber core engineering team and a dedicated Salesforce team led by a deep and experienced Director of Salesforce Engineering.

As VP of Engineering, you will lead both of these talented groups, unifying them under a single technical vision. You will drive the strategy for building this new foundation with a pragmatic and thoughtful AI strategy at its core. This is a role for a hands-on builder who wants to be in the details, shaping the architecture and culture of a team poised for significant impact.

What You'll Do

Lead with Technical Vision: Drive the evolution of the architecture. You'll be a key voice in major technical decisions, ensuring the team builds for both immediate needs and long-term scalability.

Manage and Grow a High-Performing Organization: Lead the entire engineering function, directly managing the core engineering team while partnering with the Director of Salesforce Engineering. You will mentor and grow leaders, foster a culture of ownership, and build a world-class, distributed team.

Execute with Clarity: Work closely with Product, Design, and CX to set technical direction, prioritize ruthlessly, and make smart, strategic tradeoffs. You'll implement lightweight processes that increase velocity, quality, and cross-functional transparency.

Stay Hands-On: Remain deeply involved in the technical details. You'll actively participate in architectural reviews, system design discussions, and be a trusted technical advisor to your teams.

Own and Execute a Pragmatic AI Strategy: You will own the AI roadmap from end to end. This includes partnering with leadership to identify high-impact opportunities within the product, while also championing an internal AI strategy to act as a force multiplier for the engineering team. You will be responsible for both building intelligent features for customers and deploying tools that boost internal productivity, ensuring AI is applied where it drives the most value.

Who You Are

A Technology Startup Veteran: You have 8+ years of engineering leadership experience with at least 5 years spent in high-growth technology startups (Series A through growth stage). You've been through the journey of scaling engineering teams from 10 to 50+ engineers and understand the unique challenges of building in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment. You've managed high-trust, high-performance teams and have experience mentoring both ICs and managers through hypergrowth.

A Builder at Heart: You are a deeply technical leader who isn't afraid to get into the weeds. You're as comfortable whiteboarding a system design as you are presenting to the executive team. You lead with clarity, conviction, and a strong point of view on what great engineering looks like. You've built systems from the ground up at a technology startup and know how to make smart tradeoffs between speed and quality.

An AI Pragmatist with Startup Chops: You have a proven track record of leveraging AI to deliver real-world value in a technology startup setting, where speed to market and customer impact are paramount. You're excited by the opportunity to build intelligent, customer-facing features and are equally passionate about using AI to create internal efficiencies for the engineering team. You think strategically about the ROI of AI initiatives and have hands-on experience applying LLMs, automation, and data infrastructure in a practical, results-driven way.

Adaptable and Resilient: You thrive in the creative messiness of a growing technology startup. You don't need layers of process to be effective and are energized by the ambiguity and rapid pace of startup life. You're comfortable building the systems your team needs from the ground up and have successfully navigated the transitions from scrappy early-stage execution to more structured growth-stage operations.
