Head of Product – Commercial Lending Technology

Location: Remote – United States

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

The Opportunity

Our client, an established and growing financial technology company serving financial institutions, is seeking a Head of Product to lead the strategy, vision, roadmap, and continued evolution of its commercial lending technology platform.

This is a highly visible executive leadership opportunity for a product leader who wants to do more than manage a roadmap. You will have the opportunity to influence what gets built, why it matters, and how technology can fundamentally improve the way commercial lenders operate.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in commercial lending technology and loan origination systems (LOS) combined with a track record of leading product management within fintech, banking technology, or B2B SaaS.

You should be equally comfortable developing a multi-year product strategy, engaging with senior banking executives, translating complex lending workflows into scalable solutions, and working closely with Engineering to bring those solutions to market.

Our client has an established platform, long-standing financial institution relationships, and a meaningful opportunity to modernize and expand its technology offering. Key priorities include improving usability and workflow automation, strengthening integrations, increasing product adoption, and identifying practical applications for AI and intelligent automation throughout the commercial lending lifecycle.

This is a role for a builder, operator, strategist, and customer advocate who wants to remain close to the market while building a disciplined, scalable product organization.

What You'll Own

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Own and articulate the company's product vision and multi-year product strategy.
  • Translate business objectives, market dynamics, client needs, competitive intelligence, and emerging technologies into clear product priorities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the commercial lending lifecycle and identify opportunities to create differentiated value for financial institutions.
  • Partner directly with the CEO and executive leadership team on strategic priorities, investment decisions, and growth opportunities.
  • Evaluate when the organization should build, buy, partner, integrate, or intentionally choose not to invest.
  • Ensure product investments are tied to measurable client and commercial outcomes rather than simply increasing feature volume.

Roadmap Ownership & Prioritization

  • Own the enterprise product roadmap and establish a disciplined and transparent prioritization process.
  • Balance strategic platform investments with client requirements, technical debt, regulatory considerations, integrations, and commercial opportunities.
  • Develop compelling business cases for significant product investments.
  • Establish clear criteria for evaluating customer requests while reducing dependence on one-off customization that does not advance the broader platform.
  • Provide visibility into roadmap priorities, dependencies, tradeoffs, and changes across the organization.
  • Establish meaningful measures for roadmap execution and product impact.

Commercial Lending & LOS Leadership

Serve as a product subject-matter leader across the commercial lending lifecycle, including:

  • Commercial loan origination and workflow
  • Credit underwriting and analysis
  • Financial spreading
  • Credit approval and decisioning
  • Portfolio and relationship management
  • Annual and periodic reviews
  • Covenant tracking and monitoring
  • Document and exception management
  • Core banking, data, and third-party integrations
  • Reporting and analytics

You will need to understand how commercial bankers, relationship managers, credit officers, underwriters, administrators, and banking executives actually work — and where technology can eliminate friction, manual processes, duplicate entry, and inefficient workflows.

You will also stay ahead of developments across commercial lending technology, competitive LOS platforms, regulatory requirements, and changing expectations within financial institutions.

Client & Market Discovery

  • Spend meaningful time with clients and prospects to understand how they operate and where technology can create greater value.
  • Establish structured methods for gathering and synthesizing customer feedback without allowing individual requests to dictate the roadmap.
  • Participate in executive client meetings, advisory sessions, discovery conversations, strategic demonstrations, and major account discussions.
  • Partner with Customer Success to understand adoption, client health, unmet needs, renewal risks, and expansion opportunities.
  • Partner with Sales to understand competitive dynamics, lost opportunities, prospect requirements, and emerging market needs.
  • Convert client and market intelligence into actionable product decisions.

Product & Engineering Leadership

You will serve as a critical partner to Engineering, maintaining clear accountability between what and why the organization builds and how and when it is delivered.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure Engineering receives clearly defined business problems, requirements, context, acceptance criteria, and priorities before development begins.
  • Establish effective product-development processes spanning discovery, planning, development, release, adoption, and measurement.
  • Improve delivery predictability while maintaining product quality and sound technical architecture.
  • Participate actively in release planning, backlog refinement, product reviews, and other development activities where appropriate.
  • Ensure delivered capabilities solve the intended customer and business problem rather than simply completing development requirements.

AI, Automation & Product Innovation

Our client sees significant opportunity to apply emerging technologies to commercial lending — but innovation must solve real problems and produce measurable value.

You will:

  • Identify practical applications for AI, intelligent automation, and advanced analytics throughout the commercial lending lifecycle.
  • Explore opportunities to reduce manual work across portfolio reviews, credit analysis, workflow orchestration, document and data extraction, exception identification, and portfolio insights.
  • Distinguish meaningful commercial opportunities from technology experimentation.
  • Partner closely with Engineering to incorporate emerging technologies responsibly and effectively.
  • Establish measurable business cases and client outcomes for new technology investments.

Product Commercialization & Adoption

Building great technology is only part of the job. You will also ensure the market understands it, clients adopt it, and the business captures its value.

  • Partner with Sales, Customer Success, Operations, and Marketing to successfully bring new capabilities to market.
  • Develop clear positioning, value propositions, and internal enablement around major releases.
  • Ensure commercial teams clearly understand product capabilities, use cases, and limitations.
  • Support strategic demonstrations and complex sales opportunities requiring senior product expertise.
  • Work with Customer Success to measure adoption and determine whether new capabilities are delivering the intended client value.
  • Identify product-driven opportunities for expansion revenue across the existing client base.

Build the Product Organization

The Head of Product will have the opportunity to shape not only the product, but also how the company approaches product management.

You will:

  • Lead and develop the Product function, assessing organizational structure, capabilities, roles, and future hiring requirements.
  • Establish clear accountability and expectations across product management.
  • Build scalable product-management practices appropriate for a growing fintech organization without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Create consistent operating rhythms around roadmap reviews, product performance, client feedback, competitive intelligence, and strategic planning.
  • Establish meaningful product KPIs and create a more data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Build strong partnerships across Engineering, Customer Success, Operations, Sales, Finance, and executive leadership.

How Success Will Be Measured

Success will be measured by business and customer outcomes, including:

  • Increased platform adoption and utilization
  • Improved client satisfaction and product sentiment
  • Improved gross and net revenue retention
  • Increased expansion opportunities within the installed client base
  • Greater roadmap predictability and execution discipline
  • Reduced reliance on non-strategic custom development
  • Stronger alignment between Product and Engineering
  • Increased differentiation within the commercial lending and LOS market
  • Successful commercialization and adoption of new capabilities
  • Measurable progress modernizing and expanding the technology platform

What We're Looking For

Required Experience

  • Significant product management experience within commercial lending technology, commercial loan origination systems, or closely related banking technology.
  • Direct understanding of the workflows and technology requirements of commercial banks and/or credit unions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a product function, product team, or significant product portfolio.
  • Experience owning product strategy and roadmaps for a B2B SaaS, fintech, or banking technology platform.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial lending lifecycle from origination and underwriting through approval, closing, monitoring, and portfolio management.
  • Experience partnering closely with software engineering organizations to deliver complex enterprise technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements directly from financial institutions and translate them into scalable product capabilities.
  • Ability to balance competing customer, commercial, strategic, and technical priorities.
  • Experience engaging and presenting directly to senior banking executives.
  • Strong executive-level written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Highly Valued Experience

  • Experience with a commercial LOS, lending technology, banking software, or fintech provider.
  • Knowledge of financial spreading, commercial credit analysis, portfolio management, workflow, or credit decisioning technology.
  • Experience with API-driven platforms and integrations with bank cores and third-party fintech providers.
  • Experience modernizing an established enterprise software platform.
  • Exposure to AI, machine learning, intelligent automation, or advanced analytics within financial-services workflows.
  • Experience operating within an entrepreneurial, high-growth, or private-equity-backed technology environment.

The Leadership Profile

We're looking for someone who combines commercial lending credibility with strong product instincts and hands-on leadership.

You are commercially minded. You understand that great product management ultimately creates measurable value for both clients and the business.

You are customer obsessed. You want to understand how bankers actually work — not simply what they ask you to build.

You are strategic and hands-on. You can develop a three-year product vision and then dive into the details of a lending workflow with Engineering.

You are decisive. You can make difficult prioritization decisions, explain the rationale behind them, and say no when necessary.

You are technically credible. You don't need to be an engineer, but you can engage deeply enough to understand architecture, integrations, dependencies, tradeoffs, and technical constraints.

You are curious and forward-looking. You continually challenge assumptions and look for better ways to solve meaningful customer problems.

You are collaborative and low ego. You can challenge ideas constructively and care more about arriving at the right answer than receiving credit for it.

And you are accountable. You take ownership of outcomes, communicate issues early, and don't allow important problems to disappear between organizational boundaries.

Why This Opportunity?

Our client is at an important stage in its evolution.

The company has an established presence within commercial lending technology, deep industry expertise, and long-standing relationships with financial institutions. It is now investing in the next generation of its technology and product organization — modernizing its platform, strengthening its development processes, deepening client engagement, and exploring how AI and automation can meaningfully improve commercial lending.

For the right product leader, this is an opportunity to do considerably more than inherit and manage an existing roadmap.

You will have the opportunity to shape the product strategy, build the product organization, influence the technology direction, and help define what the company becomes next.
