What Our Client Needs

Our client is seeking a Lead or Principal Product Designer who is an expert in Design Systems to own and evolve a unified design system across a growing product portfolio. This role combines strategic systems leadership with hands-on product design work and cross-functional collaboration.

You bring a strong balance of strategic leadership, operational excellence, and hands-on execution. You thrive in complex environments, communicate clearly across teams, and enjoy mentoring others while driving meaningful change.

What You’ll Do

Lead the strategy, governance, adoption, and execution of a unified design system while contributing to high-quality product design across the organization.

  • Own and evolve the design system as a product with a clear roadmap, governance model, and adoption strategy
  • Build and maintain UI components, documentation, developer-facing resources, and design-to-code parity
  • Partner closely with engineering to align Figma, Storybook, and production implementations
  • Drive consolidation efforts across multiple active products and teams
  • Define scalable design patterns that support complex enterprise workflows and multiple user types
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies across products and advocate for system improvements
  • Design end-to-end product experiences including user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI designs
  • Support accessibility, responsive design, localization, and edge-case considerations in all work
  • Mentor designers and help mature design practices, standards, and processes
  • Present work confidently to stakeholders and communicate the strategic value of design systems

This role is primarily remote with occasional opportunities for in-person collaboration. No direct supervisory responsibilities were specified.

What You’ll Need

  • 7–15 years of product design experience with significant design systems expertise
  • Proven experience building or scaling design systems across multiple live products
  • Strong understanding of governance models, documentation standards, and cross-functional workflows
  • Experience driving design system adoption and training programs
  • Deep knowledge of Figma, component architecture, design tokens, Storybook, and design-to-code workflows
  • Strong product design skills with the ability to lead delivery work from concept through execution
  • Experience designing complex B2B or enterprise software products
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across design, engineering, and product teams
  • Mentorship experience supporting the growth of other designers
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
  • Experience working within Agile or Scrum product development environments
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong systems thinking, execution, and design craft
