About the Job: We’re seeking a Claims Assistant to support daily claims operations within a collaborative, fast-paced department. This role handles the initial steps of the claims process, documentation, administrative support, communication with policyholders and partners, and general file management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process incoming and outgoing claims mail, email, and faxed materials; accurately document files and internal systems.
  • Set up new claims by gathering loss information, creating claim files, entering policy details, and ensuring accurate system documentation.
  • Maintain timely, clear, and concise documentation of all file activity.
  • Communicate effectively with insureds, claimants, agents, and internal staff; route calls appropriately.
  • Enter indemnity and expense payments accurately and ensure daily payments are prepared for mailing.
  • Input indemnity and expense reserves within scope of authority.
  • Submit and reconcile claims through ISO (first-party property and third-party reporting), including integrating responses into claim files.
  • Enter responses to NYDFS, BBB, and other formal complaints through the appropriate portals and systems.
  • Add appropriate file markers (reinsurance, subrogation, liability, property, CAT, etc.) within claims systems.
  • Assist with payment reconciliation (adjuster expenses, subrogation).
  • Prepare and distribute internal claims reports.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • INS designation or willingness to actively pursue it (company-sponsored).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-based environment.
  • Professional judgment when interacting with insureds, claimants, and agents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Comfort learning new systems; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.


Compensation: $21.00 – $27.00 / hour

Job Status: Full-time, direct hire. Hybrid eligible (2 days remote/week) after approximately 90 days of successful performance.
