About the Job: Engineering Project Manager
A fast-growing, mission-driven manufacturing company is seeking a hands-on Engineering Project Manager to own and drive capital and engineering projects from concept through execution. This role plays a critical part in scaling operations — from optimizing existing production facilities to supporting new site builds in emerging regions.
This is not a desk-only role. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys being on the plant floor, rolling up their sleeves, solving real-time problems, and building scalable systems in a startup or high-growth environment. You will balance day-to-day execution with longer-term planning, helping turn aggressive growth goals into reality.
What You’ll Do
Own Projects End-to-End
- Lead capital and engineering projects from idea to startup, owning scope, schedule, budget, and execution.
- Work directly with contractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers — holding partners accountable and keeping projects moving.
- Build practical project plans, timelines, and budgets, adjusting quickly as conditions change.
- Anticipate risks, troubleshoot issues in real time, and keep stakeholders aligned.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Logistics to ensure smooth execution.
Be a Technical Leader on the Floor
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to define technical requirements that actually work in production.
- Ensure projects meet applicable safety, regulatory, and engineering standards — without slowing momentum.
- Drive standardization of equipment, systems, and processes as the organization scales across multiple sites.
- Support commissioning, startup, testing, and handoff — staying involved until systems are fully operational.
Build for Scale
- Track capital spend and work with Finance to deliver projects that make sense economically.
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve throughput, and design for future growth.
- Help translate big-picture growth plans into executable, boots-on-the-ground engineering roadmaps.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
-
5+ years of experience managing engineering or capital projects in manufacturing, industrial, or process-driven environments.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-million-dollar projects from design through commissioning.
- Comfortable using project management tools (Smartsheet, MS Project, or similar), but not dependent on them.
- Experience managing contractors, EPC firms, and vendors in dynamic environments.
- Familiarity with controls and automation systems (Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong communicator who can move easily between operators, engineers, and leadership.
- Thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and takes ownership.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Ability to work in plant and office environments, with regular exposure to manufacturing operations.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% as projects require.
Compensation $125,000-$135,000, negotiable based on experience level
