About the Job: As Safety Manager, you’ll lead and manage all company safety initiatives. The focus is ensuring compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations and promoting best-in-class safety practices across trucking operations. This role focuses on maintaining the legal and safe operation of hazardous materials equipment and personnel while supporting drivers and operations teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and enforce company safety standards, ensuring alignment with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and audit safety policies across fleet operations, driver development, maintenance, and site services.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on safety regulations and provide guidance on compliance and safety improvements.
  • Approve new driver candidates, coordinate orientation schedules, and support driver training programs.
  • Collaborate with HR and vendors on workers' compensation, return-to-work cases, and drug/alcohol screening programs.
  • Coach managers and dispatchers to improve safety discussions and practices within their teams.
  • Analyze accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents to identify trends, root causes, and preventative measures.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly safety performance reports, including trend analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Investigate incidents, determine accident preventability, and implement safety improvements.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs to enhance employee proficiency and promote awareness.
  • Maintain compliance with driver qualification files, annual MVR checks, and log audits.
  • Manage accident registers and documentation for investigations and insurance purposes.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven DOT-related safety management experience in transportation, hazmat, or trucking industries.
  • Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state safety regulations.
  • Analytical skills to assess risks, identify trends, and implement solutions effectively.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence and educate teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety performance management systems.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training programs and materials.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.


Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000

Work Style: On-site in Buffalo, NY.
