- The selected candidate will assist the Chemistry Compliance Team with various fundamental duties, including sample collection, preparation, and analytical support for inorganic and organic chemical contaminants and other drinking water constituents.
- Many of the duties requiring coverage are focused on routine and standardized wet chemistry compliance analyses, which are appropriate for the classification.
- This entry-level position will mainly perform Laboratory Technologist I job duties and support compliance with the Division of Drinking Water Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing and assisting with chemical and physical tests for monitoring water quality, including data processing; preparing reagents and standards
- Learning and assisting to operate and maintain laboratory equipment; may clean and maintain laboratory glassware and work areas
- Learning and assisting to decontaminate and dispose of chemical waste
- Updating quality assurance and quality control records and standard operating procedures
- Performing chemical analysis from drinking water system
- QA, preparing reports on work analysis
- May prepare purchase requests for laboratory supplies.
- May support training Co-op students on laboratory procedures and related equipment
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education development test (GED), two years of relevant experience, and completion of 24 semester units from an accredited college or university.
Required Knowledge of:
- Chemistry or Microbiology; Good Laboratory Practices; Laboratory safety; algebraic math; Laboratory Information Management System; and current office technology and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities to:
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; learn new analytical techniques; use algebraic math; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.
Desires Experience Below:
- Undergrad Degree in Chemistry or related field
- At least one year of experience working in a drinking water laboratory
The hiring range for this position is $37.39 - $40.59 per hour. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity, and may also vary depending on candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience amongst other factors
