The Superintendent works at the project location for the duration of the project and reports to, and works closely with, the Project Manager. This project is being delivered as a joint venture, with our company serving as the prime contractor. The Superintendent directs all field construction activities and is responsible for coordinating the efforts of all direct-hire personnel, subcontractors, and joint venture partners, operating under the prime contractor’s authority, systems, and procedures.
Position Responsibilities:
- On-site manager of day-to-day construction operations
- Works with the Project Manager to plan construction sequencing, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, and work schedules
- Provides input to cost and schedule forecasts and verifies work in progress
- Serves as the primary field representative coordinating daily activities between joint venture partners while maintaining alignment with the prime contractor’s direction
- Works with the Owner’s representative to ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and schedule
- Directs and coordinates marine construction activities involving segmented barges, flexi floats, and associated access systems
- Oversees safe setup, use, relocation, and demobilization of segmented barges and flexi-float systems to support marine construction operations
- Coordinates marine equipment, crane access, and material movement from floating platforms
- Responsible for compliance with OSHA, applicable state regulations, joint venture safety requirements, and company safety policies; works with the Safety Director to monitor craft and subcontractor compliance with the project safety program
- Conducts weekly toolbox talks and performs weekly safety inspections
- Maintains staffing levels that contribute to EEO goals for minorities and females and apprenticeship participation goals
- Performs project closeout and ensures punch-list items are completed in a timely manner
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Five years of experience as a key foreman or superintendent on bridge, heavy concrete, steel, or marine construction projects
- Experience managing work from barges, flexi floats, or other floating work platforms
- Experience working on joint venture projects or coordinating across multiple contractors
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Ability to negotiate and interact with others in a fair, firm, and professional manner
- Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and supervision of large crews
- Strong organizational, multitasking, leadership, and decision-making skills
- Competent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Four years of experience and/or a technical degree; additional education is a plus
Based on experience and qualifications, applicants may be considered for a Key Foreman position reporting to the Superintendent. The Key Foreman role provides a clear advancement path to Superintendent.
This position requires extended travel to the project site for the duration of the project, typically one or more years. Project locations are generally throughout Washington, Northern Idaho, and Northern Oregon.
