Payroll Manager

We are seeking an experienced payroll leader to oversee payroll operations for a growing, multi-state organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys building efficient, compliant, and scalable payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations, maintaining current knowledge of legislative changes and best practices.
  • Design, document, and refine payroll workflows to improve consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and business leaders to align payroll processes with organizational needs and ensure smooth system integrations.
  • Support acquisitions by leading payroll onboarding for new employees and harmonizing processes across entities.
  • Manage the calculation and distribution of payroll, including off-cycle adjustments such as manual checks and voids.
  • Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting, providing insights to senior leadership through recurring and ad hoc analysis.
  • Serve as the main escalation point for payroll issues, driving timely and accurate resolutions.
  • Administer retirement plan contributions (401k), ensuring proper funding, compliance, and reconciliations.
  • Lead or support special projects, including new system implementations, policy updates, audits, and compensation-related reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll operations and champion process improvements across the organization.

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of recent payroll management/supervisory experience handling multi-site, multi-state payrolls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Hands-on payroll operations background with strong knowledge of payroll and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with ADP (EV5/EV6 strongly preferred); experience with timekeeping systems (e-Time or similar) required.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Collaborative communicator with the ability to partner effectively across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Flexible, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with a strong work ethic and willingness to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Domestic travel required.
