Payroll Manager
We are seeking an experienced payroll leader to oversee payroll operations for a growing, multi-state organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys building efficient, compliant, and scalable payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations, maintaining current knowledge of legislative changes and best practices.
- Design, document, and refine payroll workflows to improve consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and business leaders to align payroll processes with organizational needs and ensure smooth system integrations.
- Support acquisitions by leading payroll onboarding for new employees and harmonizing processes across entities.
- Manage the calculation and distribution of payroll, including off-cycle adjustments such as manual checks and voids.
- Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting, providing insights to senior leadership through recurring and ad hoc analysis.
- Serve as the main escalation point for payroll issues, driving timely and accurate resolutions.
- Administer retirement plan contributions (401k), ensuring proper funding, compliance, and reconciliations.
- Lead or support special projects, including new system implementations, policy updates, audits, and compensation-related reviews.
- Identify opportunities to streamline payroll operations and champion process improvements across the organization.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of recent payroll management/supervisory experience handling multi-site, multi-state payrolls.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required.
- Hands-on payroll operations background with strong knowledge of payroll and accounting principles.
- Proficiency with ADP (EV5/EV6 strongly preferred); experience with timekeeping systems (e-Time or similar) required.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Collaborative communicator with the ability to partner effectively across departments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Flexible, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with a strong work ethic and willingness to adapt in a changing environment.
- Domestic travel required.
