CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

Role Summary:
We are seeking a visionary Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to lead our marketing efforts at Pepper Rewards. The CMO will be responsible for developing and executing a marketing strategy that promotes the brand, drives user growth, and enhances engagement. This role requires a blend of analytical prowess and creative acumen to navigate the competitive landscape of mobile payments and loyalty programs. A critical aspect of this role is the ability to build and scale a team from the ground up. You will need to know what resources are essential and where you can be scrappy and get by with less. This role requires someone who can make the most of limited resources and present a compelling case when additional resources are truly needed. You will also need to balance multiple facets of the role: the scientific, the creative, and the operational, while maintaining a strong scientific approach with a rigorous, data-driven methodology. At the same time, you should bring expertise in branding and marketing with a creative mindset, alongside solid management and leadership skills to oversee the team and drive results.

Team Leadership & Development: Lead, recruit, and cultivate a high-performing marketing team, ensuring continuous growth, alignment with strategic objectives, and collaboration across functions. Brand Development & Emotional Connection: Spearhead the creation and evolution of a strong, emotive brand that resonates deeply with customers, building a household name. Focus on developing a brand that’s more than the sum of its parts, forging lasting connections with customers that drive loyalty and brand advocacy.

Customer Acquisition, Conversion, & Retention: Drive customer acquisition through strategic marketing funnels, ensuring smooth transitions from initial engagement to purchase, and then to the 'aha' moment where customers become loyal. Optimize strategies to lower acquisition costs, boost conversion rates, and improve retention and lifetime value. Continuously enhance average spend to maximize ROI and ensure sustained growth.

Media Channel Management & Optimization: Oversee daily operations of both paid and organic media channels, including social media, search ads, user-generated content, mobile user acquisition, and retargeting efforts. Ensure these channels meet revenue and growth targets through precise management and continual optimization.

Market & Customer Insights: Leverage deep analysis of market trends and customer behavior to refine marketing strategies and inform product innovations. Stay ahead of the curve by continuously monitoring changes in customer needs and market dynamics.

Performance Measurement & Reporting: Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the success of marketing efforts. Regularly report progress, insights, and actionable recommendations to the executive team, using data-driven analysis to drive decisions.

Testing & Campaign Improvement: Run continuous A/B and multivariate tests across all marketing channels to refine and improve campaign effectiveness. Use insights from testing to iterate and optimize strategies for better outcomes.

Budget & ROI Management: Manage the marketing budget with a focus on maximizing return on investment. Ensure resources are allocated efficiently to meet business objectives, improve cost-effectiveness, and drive sustainable growth.

Stakeholder & Partner Collaboration: Build and nurture relationships with stakeholders, agencies, and partners to amplify marketing efforts. Establish cooperative partnerships with Fortune 500 companies and global retailers, leveraging co-branded marketing initiatives to drive customer acquisition, enhance visibility, and create mutual business opportunities.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.

Experience: 10+ years of marketing experience with 7+ years in a senior leadership role, ideally with a focus on branding, online acquisition channels and digital marketing.
- Start-Up Experience: Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies in startup or hyper-growth environments.

Brand Positioning & Storytelling: Expertise in crafting compelling brand narratives and positioning to create a strong, differentiated market presence.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of mobile payments, rewards, fintech, and/or e-commerce.
- Marketplace/Subscription Experience: Experience in a marketplace or subscription-based company is highly advantageous (eg, DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, Lyft, GrubHub, etc)
- Data & Analytics Proficiency: Highly analytical with a robust data-driven approach, proficient in digital advertising platforms and data tools, with SQL, Mode, Snowflake, or similar data platform experience.
