Job/Practice Description: Family Nurse Practitioner

• Provide generalized health care services in a community health setting
• Take principal responsibility for the primary health maintenance of patients of all ages with a full spectrum of health problems
• Take medical histories, perform examinations, and initiate and evaluate screening and diagnostic procedures
• Initiate appropriate therapeutic interventions and explain the disease process to patients
• Manage ongoing health maintenance and clinical care, including counseling patients and families on domestic and health-related problems
• Interpret and review laboratory tests and medication refills, and initiate orders for diagnostic labs and x-rays
• Determine which cases to refer to the physician for further diagnosis and treatment
• Serve as a clinical consultant to nursing and paramedical personnel
• Assist with in-service trainings
• Coordinate with families, community agencies, and other members of the health team, with thorough knowledge of community resources

Requirements:

• Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license
• FNP certificate from a program of at least 18 months (12 months of didactic and clinical work plus 6 months of supervised clinical internship)
• Current CPR certification
• Effective communication and time management skills
• Ability to interact with patients and the public courteously and calmly
• Physical requirements: lift up to 40 lbs, push up to 100 lbs (on wheels), work on feet most of the day, and manual dexterity for clinical tasks
