Controller – General Contractor Construction
Location: Oak Ridge, NJ
Salary: $125,000-$150,000 based on experience
About Our Client:
Our client, a well-established general contracting firm based in Oak Ridge, NJ, is seeking a Controller to oversee the company's financial operations. This role is ideal for a highly organized and detail-oriented financial professional with experience in the construction industry. The Controller will play a key role in managing financial reporting and budgeting and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job costing functions.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific accounting standards.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for senior management.
- Collaborate with project managers to track project financials, ensuring cost control and profitability.
- Work with external auditors, tax professionals, and banking partners to support financial planning and compliance.
- Implement and improve accounting systems and financial processes for efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and financial risk management strategies.
- Assist in strategic financial planning and long-term business growth initiatives.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA preferred.

5+ years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in the construction or general contracting industry.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software - SAGE 300 is required.
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience managing payroll, subcontractor payments, and lien waivers.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
