Project Accountant

Location: Harlem, NY

Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 (based on experience)

Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site (No hybrid or remote)

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established General Contractor based in New York City, is seeking a sharp and professional Project Accountant to join their team in Harlem. This is a fully in-office role supporting active construction projects throughout the NYC area.

The ideal candidate will come directly from the GC side and bring strong experience with Sage and AIA billing processes, along with a solid understanding of construction project accounting. This role is best suited for someone who can step in and operate independently with minimal ramp-up.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle project accounting for multiple construction projects
• Prepare and process AIA billings, including requisitions and lien waivers in coordination with Project Managers
• Track project budgets, costs, and financial performance
• Work closely with Project Managers to ensure accurate cost reporting and forecasting
• Maintain and update financial records in Sage
• Review subcontractor invoices, ensure proper documentation and approvals, and process payments
• Assist with month-end close processes related to project financials
• Support audits and ensure compliance with company and client requirements

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of experience in project accounting within a General Contractor environment
• Strong working knowledge of Sage (required)
• Experience with Procore is highly preferred
• Hands-on experience with AIA billing is required
• Solid understanding of construction cost structures and job costing
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and professional in communication
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
