Assistant Project Manager – Luxury Hotel Renovations | New York City


Our client, a well-established construction management and general contracting firm with nearly four decades of experience delivering high-end commercial and residential projects throughout New York City, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager ready to take the next step into a Project Manager-level role.

Position Overview

The Assistant Project Manager will support and oversee all phases of luxury hotel renovation projects in New York City—from preconstruction through closeout—while working closely with senior management, architects, and subcontractors. The ideal candidate has 4–5 years of APM experience in construction management and is eager to transition into a Project Manager role, taking ownership of project execution, budgets, and schedules.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing multiple luxury hotel renovation projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on time and within budget
  • Lead coordination between ownership, design teams, consultants, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle
  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure design intent and compliance
  • Prepare and track RFIs, change orders, meeting minutes, and punch lists
  • Support preconstruction activities including bid solicitation, scope reviews, and subcontractor buyouts
  • Monitor and report on project schedules using MS Project or similar platforms
  • Conduct regular site visits and assist with quality control and progress reporting
  • Ensure safety standards and site protocols are followed
  • Foster strong working relationships with subcontractors and vendors, emphasizing integrity and collaboration
  • Assist with monthly billing, pay applications, and project closeout documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 4–5 years of experience as an Assistant Project Manager with a general contractor or construction manager
  • Experience in high-end hotel, hospitality, or luxury interior renovations strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Procore, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and Excel
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, design coordination, and NYC permitting processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Self-driven, with the desire and capability to progress into a full Project Manager role
