Job Overview:

Our client, a leading construction management firm in New Jersey, is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Accountant to join their accounting team. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction or related industries and possess strong knowledge of managing payables, vendor invoices, and project-related accounting processes. This role will play a crucial part in maintaining financial accuracy and supporting project operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Process vendor invoices, ensuring proper coding and approvals according to company policies and project budgets.
  • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including matching invoices to purchase orders and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Monitor and track project costs, ensuring accurate allocation of expenses to respective projects.
  • Prepare and issue checks and electronic payments in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve billing issues, discrepancies, and ensure timely payments.
  • Reconcile accounts payable ledger to ensure all payments and expenses are recorded and posted correctly.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and account reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and procurement teams to ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation for audits.
  • Support the accounting team with ad-hoc financial tasks and reporting as required.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounts payable, preferably within the construction or real estate development industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and project cost management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of lien waivers, subcontractor payments, and construction compliance documents is a plus.
