As the Director of Industrial Engineering, you will be responsible for optimizing and scaling our advanced manufacturing and assembly operations. You’ll lead cross-functional initiatives that enhance
efficiency, throughput, cost control, and quality across production lines, both in-house and in the field. This is a rare opportunity to shape the systems that enable revolutionary housing to be built at
scale—combining the rigor of high-volume manufacturing with the creativity and mission-driven ethos of a design-first startup.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement scalable industrial engineering strategies across production facilities, including work cell design, process flow optimization, layout engineering, and resource planning.
- Lead the vision and roadmap for industrial engineering initiatives to support business growth, speed to market, and cost optimization.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate industrial engineering into the broader operational and construction strategy.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process maps for consistent field execution.
- Identify and implement standardization opportunities across job sites and building typologies.
- Drive throughput improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and data-driven process improvement methodologies. Design and deploy new production lines and ramp-up plans for new products or markets.
- Oversee development of tooling and automation systems that reduce cycle time and improve quality.
- Collaborate with product and mechanical engineering teams to ensure DFM/A principles are baked into early design.
- Build robust KPIs and reporting frameworks for efficiency, quality, task time, labor productivity, and equipment utilization. Lead regular Kaizen and root cause analysis initiatives.
- Partner closely with design, product, construction, supply chain, and manufacturing operations teams to align engineering initiatives with broader strategic goals.
- Support field teams with problem-solving frameworks and data analysis to improve day-to-day performance.
Who You Are
- 10+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in scaling production lines from prototype to volume manufacturing.
- Expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred), process simulation, and factory layout tools.
- Hands-on experience in high-mix, low-volume environments or modular/prefab construction is a strong plus.
- Deep understanding of production economics, labor models, and capacity planning.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with ERP/MES systems and digital manufacturing workflows.
- Passion for sustainable housing, first-principles problem solving, and building systems from scratch.
