Position Title: Financial Controller
Reports To: CFO
Position Summary
The Financial Controller is responsible for managing payroll, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies. This role supports the CFO with reporting, audits, and budget development while maintaining a high level of integrity and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Process payroll in a timely manner.
- Manage payroll functions including child support, employee advances, garnishments, PTO, bonuses, 401(k), health insurance, and other adjustments.
- Calculate and process sales commissions.
- Prepare Workers’ Compensation reporting.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare weekly, monthly, annual, and other financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, profit by class, bank register, A/R, A/P, etc.).
- Provide financial analyses as needed.
- Prepare financial statements for all subsidiaries and process intercompany transactions.
Accounting Operations
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Ensure periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
- Manage accounts payable to ensure timely payment.
- Manage outsourced functions (e.g., ADP payroll).
- Support the development of annual budgets.
- Maintain the chart of accounts, accounting filing systems, and asset records.
- Ensure timely debt payments.
- Conduct random invoice audits, with emphasis on tax compliance.
Compliance & Administration
- Comply with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Provide clerical and administrative support to management as required.
- Perform general ledger reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Competencies
- Solid understanding of financial statements.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and other financial/accounting systems.
- Knowledge of payroll processes including child support, garnishments, and related items.
- Basic exposure to tax law.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
