Position Title: Vice President of Finance
Reports To: CFO
Location: Midland, TX
Position Summary
The Vice President of Finance will lead the financial department, reporting directly to the corporate CFO. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial systems, processes, and data, while driving profitability and compliance. The VP of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership, manage reporting and payroll, oversee accounting operations, and support the executive team in making fact-based economic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Accountable for internal financial reporting and payroll, ensuring system controls maintain data integrity.
- Prepare and analyze reports that summarize and forecast company business activity, including income and expenses.
- Coordinate month-end close within seven days and year-end close by March 1 to support tax filings and payroll reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and reports for regulatory agencies.
- Manage inter-company purchases, expenses, and management fees; produce financial documents across all entities operated by the management company.
- Support audits and ensure accurate job-cost accounting reports.
- Coordinate processing of taxes, draws, and other financial obligations for ownership.
Accounting Operations & Compliance
- Establish and maintain procedures for accurate management of the general ledger, purchasing, expense reports, billings, collections, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Supervise A/P and A/R functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of billings, cash receipts, purchase orders, and disbursements for effective cash management.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax law, audit regulations, and Department of Labor requirements.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead preparation of departmental and company-wide budgets; monitor compliance throughout the year.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the management team for operational improvements and capital expenditure decisions.
Strategic & Executive Partnership
- Act as a key member of the management team, supporting economic decision-making and future growth initiatives.
- Collaborate with external accounting firms and ensure smooth execution of tax and audit requirements.
- Provide financial guidance on mergers and acquisitions, where applicable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger, payroll, A/P, A/R, income tax, and banking operations.
- Deep understanding of GAAP, tax, audit reporting, and Department of Labor regulations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial and legal documents.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial systems proficiency.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), with an emphasis on reporting and correspondence.
- Proven leadership and managerial abilities in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Merger and acquisition experience desirable.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration; MBA or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related industry, primarily in supervisory or executive positions.
- Proven experience with complex payroll management.
- Up-to-date knowledge of accounting technology and best practices.
- Experience managing multi-company operations or single entities with 20+ divisions.
- Tax law expertise across multiple southwestern states.
- Demonstrated success in a C-level finance position within an organization exceeding $100M in revenue.
