The Position:


The Accounting Supervisor assists CrossPurpose in supervising the day-to-day operations within the finance department through processing, recording, and maintaining the financial records of the organization and its subsidiaries, while also providing financial information to management.

This position oversees the month-end closing process and all bookkeeping functions to help manage the general ledger. The Accounting Supervisor performs account reconciliations, payroll allocations, journal entries, and continuous auditing of expense and revenue recording processes to ensure compliance and a high level of accuracy.


Responsibilities:


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Perform account reconciliations and drive month-end closing procedures for timely, accurate reporting.
  • Supervise and assist subordinate accounting staff, ensuring objectives are met.
  • Support annual audits by providing required documentation and responses.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal team members and external donors/clients, addressing financial inquiries as needed.

Transaction Processing

  • Oversee deposits, reviewing documentation for accuracy with appropriate restrictions, allocations, and/or projects (A/R).
  • Oversee payment and reimbursement requests by verifying substantiating documents and expense coding (A/P).
  • Organize and maintain financial records; ensure donor databases are up to date.
  • Review and approve journal entries; create entries as needed for GAAP compliance and month-end reporting.
  • Oversee/perform reconciliation of bank accounts, credit card statements, and donations; complete other reconciliations as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the month-end close process.
  • Lead payroll processing and related procedures.

Financial Best Practices

  • Maintain accounting controls by following existing policies and recommending adjustments.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local financial/legal requirements.
  • Strengthen internal controls to maintain financial security.
  • Maintain donor confidence and protect operations through confidentiality.
  • Stay current with professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, and networks.
  • Report to management regarding organizational finances.
  • Suggest ways to reduce costs, enhance revenues, and improve profits.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications 


  • 5+ years of comprehensive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting, reconciliations, month-end procedures, and audits.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with internal controls, tax regulations, and GAAP.
  • High-level accounting knowledge with advanced proficiency in financial systems.
  • Leadership and project management experience with minimal supervision required.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience (CPA or related certifications preferred).
  • Strong commitment to the Christian faith.
  • Deep passion for the CrossPurpose mission and values.
  • Ability to provide a working laptop and smartphone for personal and work use.


Salary + Benefits:


Hours: 40–50 hours/week (Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with occasional evening/weekend events).


Salary/Wage: $67,500 – $81,000 annually (Accountant III).


Vacation: 15 days per year, plus office closure Christmas Day through New Year’s Day.


Sick Days: 6 days per year.
