The Position:

The Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs (DGSP) oversees the University’s efforts to secure funding from grants and sponsored projects. The Director (a) identifies and effectively communicates to faculty and staff opportunities for grants and sponsored projects from private and public funding entities that will support the University’s academic efforts under the guidance of the Provost; (b) oversees the pre- and post- award process for all University grants and contracts by working in collaboration with faculty, staff and university administration; (c) manages the complete funding cycle ensuring deliverables are met internally and externally (LOI, Proposals, Reports, Finance, etc); (e) through the Provost, works with the administration to monitor the academic needs of the institution, to identity funding possibilities, and to keep the administration apprised of grants activity at the University. The role is annually responsible for establishing, with the Provost, target funding goals for grants and sponsored research.


Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for compliance of grants and sponsored projects both internally and externally from private and public entities, with an ability to stay abreast of changing rules and regulations.
  • Provide leadership of post-award financial management, authorize expenditures submitted for grants, is responsible for payroll submissions on awards, and communicates consistently with the finance team. 
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff in developing funding proposals.
  • Oversee the university’s federal overhead rate application process.
  • Work with the Provost to establish overhead rates for non-federal funding projects.
  • Maintain and upkeep the University's pre- and post-award procedures for applying and securing funding through this revenue line.
  • Provide assistance and advice to faculty and administrative staff regarding project development and proposal, and report preparation to ensure that projects and funding opportunities are aligned with Taylor University’s institutional priorities and/or faculty and department research commitments.
  • Develop a resource base for potential funding opportunities to support an array of institutional opportunities, including but not limited to faculty research (fellowships, grants), administrative projects, and larger institutional priorities. 
  • Collaboratively assist in the development of grant proposals and reports for all funding opportunities.
  • Provide annual workshop training for faculty and staff on securing and maintaining grants and sponsored projects.
  • At the request of the Provost, serve on the IRB and Provost’s Council
  • Utilize a database for grants management activities and tracking.
  • Publicize grant and contract awards on campus and submit information to Communications & Marketing for on- and off-campus publicity.
  • Develop effective stewardship plans for all funded grants, including but not limited to campus visits.
  • Prepare the administration and funding sources for visits related to funding.
  • Manage the Office of Grants & Sponsored Programs and be responsible for its budget, website, updating all manuals and materials, and other functions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Work independently with minimal direction or supervision.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 5-7 years of experience in grant administration. 
  • Strong understanding of both private and public funding.
