A respected engineering consulting firm is hiring a Geotechnical Engineer to support site development and infrastructure projects. This role blends technical design, field oversight, reporting, and client coordination—ideal for someone who wants ownership of geotechnical scopes from investigation through construction support.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute subsurface investigations (borings, test pits, sampling programs)
- Coordinate field services and drilling subcontractors; maintain QA/QC on logs and samples
- Perform geotechnical analyses such as:
- Foundation recommendations (spread/strip footings, mats, deep foundations)
- Settlement, bearing capacity, and lateral earth pressures
- Slope stability and retaining wall support
- Pavement section design and subgrade evaluation
- Ground improvement and earthwork recommendations
- Prepare clear, defensible geotechnical engineering reports with design parameters and construction recommendations
- Review plans/specs and provide geotech input during design and preconstruction
- Provide construction-phase support: submittal review, RFIs, site observations, and issue resolution
- Communicate findings to clients, design teams, and contractors in a practical, solutions-oriented way
- Support proposal development, scoping, and budgeting (depending on level)
Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
- 3+ years of geotechnical engineering experience (consulting preferred)
- Familiarity with geotechnical exploration methods, soil/rock classification, and reporting
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to perform local travel to job sites as needed
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- PE license (or actively pursuing; EIT required if not licensed)
- Experience with transportation, DOT, bridges, dams, waterfront/marine, or deep foundations
- Working knowledge of geotech software (e.g., gINT/OpenGround, GEO5, PLAXIS, Slide, LPILE, GROUP, Settle3, etc.)
- Experience mentoring junior staff and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams
