Heavy Civil Estimator

Seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator with a strong business development mindset. This role blends detailed estimating with client interaction—perfect for someone who enjoys owning both the numbers and the relationships that win work.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare detailed estimates for heavy civil and infrastructure projects (earthwork, utilities, drainage, concrete, paving, industrial sites).
  • Review plans, specs, and bid documents; perform quantity takeoffs and build complete cost estimates.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; clarify scope and close gaps.
  • Prepare bid summaries, cost breakdowns, and proposal documents.
  • Support business development by:
  • Tracking and qualifying opportunities
  • Attending pre-bid meetings and site walks
  • Building and maintaining relationships with owners, agencies, engineers, and partners
  • Coordinate with project managers and field leadership to ensure estimates reflect real-world means and methods.
  • Help refine historical cost data, production rates, and estimating tools to improve accuracy and competitiveness.

What Success Looks Like

  • Independently leading estimates on projects in the $3M–$10M+ range.
  • Producing accurate, well-organized estimates submitted on time.
  • Contributing to new or expanded client relationships and successful project awards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience with a contractor.
  • Strong knowledge of civil work: earthwork, utilities, drainage, structures, and site development.
  • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid (or similar) and Microsoft Excel/Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with owners, engineers, subs, and internal teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a client-facing or business development-oriented role.
  • Familiarity with Arizona/Southwest public and private infrastructure markets.
