A Day in the Life of the Accounting Manager
Under the guidance of the Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and various general ledger functions in accounting systems and for supporting fiscal management functions throughout the Association.
Responsibilities include
- Manage the functional areas of payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Review and monitor the organization’s financial position; creates and distribute necessary reports on the organization’s financial stability, liquidity, and growth
- Oversight and management of financial/accounting systems: financial control, variance analysis, expense control, forecasting, revenues (earned, grant, donated), expense monitoring and satisfying external auditors
- Ensure all areas affecting financials are reflected accurately in financial statements, including but not limited to transaction postings coming from front desk software, financial assistance, payroll and benefit costs, expenses, and capital costs
- Establish, maintain or modifie appropriate internal systems to support financial and business operations
- Direct Support and fulfill requests related to annual audit of accounting functions, work with auditors in performance of audit and preparation of tax return
- Assists in the annual budgeting process for the Association; integrates budget with Strategic Plan and Business Plan goals
- Oversee all contractual relationships; ensures that contracts are valid and support Association goals
- Partner with Controller, lead organizational adaptation specific to financial needs (cash flow management, strategic development for revenue sources, spending and capital assets)
- Lead and manage accounting and information systems and infrastructure and the adaption/enhancement
- Address issues concerning staff in a timely manner and provide necessary support to result in positive change
- Listen to staff and provide support, guidance, and tools when necessary
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred
- 3 years of previous experience in organizational and management accounting. Non-profit experience preferred
- Experience with an annual budget of at least $13 million in annual revenue
- Ability to pass a background check with fingerprint clearance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Google Platform (Gmail, Calendar, Google Docs), and QuickBooks.
- Effectively use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets, research, and budgeting
- Strong knowledge and ability to work within various databases and payroll systems.
- Must have good written and verbal communications skills
- Demonstrated skills in planning, time management, flexibility, organization, and independent work
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and a high degree of tact and discretion is required.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others
