The Payment Programs team supports and enhances legacy systems that serve various financial purposes. Each system has mainframe and distributed components consisting of web front ends, databases, windows and Linux servers and middleware technologies. As part of annual mandatory work these systems require upgrades to their technologies and migration to modern tech stacks.




Our client is working to reduce our mainframe footprint and is rewriting aspects of each system for best cost benefit. 




Systems supported include, but are not limited to:


       OMAS – consolidates financial activity for government agencies.


       FMRS – a reporting system for the mailings of congress.


       Uniform Allowance – a mainframe system that manages the enrollment of employees in a purchase card program for uniforms.


       EAPS – An accounts payable system for one-off payments or other activity that doesn’t fit within our corporate AR system.




Description: z/OS / Java Developer (1 of 2 Resources)




Required:


Minimum of 5 years in mainframe development, including IBM z/OS, JCL, COBOL, VSAM, and MQ.

Basic experience with Java, particularly for applications that interface with the mainframe (familiarity with JZOS is required).

Familiarity with IBM JavaClassGenerator for working with sequential files and enabling Java-mainframe integration.

Experience with REXX and SAS scripting for automation and data manipulation.

Experience in mainframe migration projects or modernization initiatives is preferred.

Familiarity with mainframe communication tools such as CICS and MQ and mainframe security protocols, including RACF.



Technical Skills


Must be proficient in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, MQ, and CICS.

Must have a basic understanding of Java programming to support integration and migration activities.

Must have experience with JZOS and IBM JavaClassGenerator to facilitate mainframe and Java interoperability.

Must have proficiency in REXX and SAS scripting on mainframe systems for data manipulation and process automation.

Knowledge of best practices in mainframe migration planning, including risk assessment and resource management.



Soft Skills


Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Effective verbal and written communication skills, especially for collaborating on mainframe integration with Java developers and migration planning.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a focus on quality and attention to detail.



Preferred:


Experience with DevOps practices on mainframes, including tools like Jenkins and Git.

Familiarity with MQ use with Apache Kafka.

Prior experience with performance tuning on mainframe systems and Java applications.
