Responsibilities

  • Function as a process safety advisory resource for the plant, offering guidance and expertise on related initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical consultant to the plant's management team, actively pursuing opportunities to contribute experience and a methodical problem-solving approach to areas such as goal setting, plant enhancement, and more.
  • Utilize technical expertise and practical knowledge to mentor and educate fellow plant engineers, both within and beyond the team, regarding process safety endeavors.
  • Create comprehensive project overview presentations for senior management, inclusive of detailed design engineering components like P&ID annotations, equipment process data sheets, process piping layouts, and supplementary equipment.
  • Develop intricate front-end designs for projects.
  • Collaborate in the formulation of conceptual protection strategies, specifications for protection layers, creation of PFDs, and the definition of detailed scopes of work.
  • Lead projects from the conceptual stage to the commissioning and startup phases.
  • Offer technical assistance for all Process Safety requisites as necessary, encompassing participation in PHA studies, resolution of PSM-related action items, and execution of Management of Change (MOC) requests.
  • Conduct risk assessments for Process Safety projects using LOPA and diverse methodologies to validate design choices, ensuring alignment with the organization's Risk Matrix.
  • Serve as an on-site Process Safety Management Engineer, supporting operations, engineering, and maintenance functions.
  • Participate when required in systematic reviews of facility modifications within the context of the Management of Change (MOC) Process and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
  • Organize, execute, and document impromptu risk assessments as needed for MOCs and smaller-scale projects.
  • Adhere to directives and carry out additional responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Aid fellow employees in achieving company objectives.
  • Engage in and successfully finish company-mandated training programs.
  • Take accountability for ensuring Process Safety Management (PSM) conformity in areas encompassing mechanical integrity, engineering design, relief devices, design hazard assessments, process safety documentation, maintenance procedures, and all pertinent record-keeping obligations.
  • Engage in Environmental, Health, and Safety endeavors as specified by the organization.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate 3-5 years of practical experience, with a notable emphasis on Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) sizing and calculations.
  • Previous involvement with a valve manufacturing company, even if brief, provides a significant advantage.
  • Showcase proficiency in utilizing engineering software and tools specifically designed for PSV calculations.
  • Exhibit robust analytical capabilities and a knack for effective problem-solving.
  • Display superb communication and interpersonal aptitude suitable for interactions with vendors and seamless team cooperation.
  • Showcase a keen eye for detail coupled with an unwavering commitment to safety.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous exposure to hazard study evaluations such as PHA, LOPA, and FS, as well as critical equipment assessments, is strongly advised.
  • Possess familiarity with the application and adherence to regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, etc.), if possible.
  • Hold knowledge of industry-established standards and endorsed protocols (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.) in high regard.
  • Any prior involvement in the initial design phases and the detailed design aspects of projects would be a valuable asset.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of processes, instrumentation, and mechanical apparatus within a refinery or chemical plant environment, which is highly sought after.



Salary

*This 40-hour-per-week W2 contract-to-hire consultant role is eligible for benefits. It is based in Conroe, TX. The target salary range for this position is from $50 to $80 per hour based on experience.
