The opportunity

An established high voltage equipment manufacturer is seeking an experienced GIS professional to lead installation work at customer sites across the United States. This is a hands-on role for someone who can earn a crew’s trust, solve field problems, and represent the manufacturer with confidence from installation through commissioning.

You will be the primary onsite technical representative for product-only GIS projects. You will coordinate contractors and installation crews, work closely with customers and internal project teams, and help bring projects safely to completion. The position offers visibility and the potential to grow into broader leadership as the U.S. organization expands.

About the title: “Manager” describes leadership of onsite installation work. This is initially an individual contributor position without direct hiring or firing authority.

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate GIS installation crews and contractors through technical expertise, clear communication, and sound field judgment.
• Oversee equipment receiving, assembly, installation, inspection, and testing in accordance with drawings, procedures, quality standards, and schedules.
• Support GIS commissioning, startup, and readiness for energization alongside engineering, project management, and service teams.
• Identify and resolve technical, safety, quality, logistical, and schedule issues; escalate matters that need additional expertise or decisions.
• Serve as a responsive point of contact for customers and keep internal teams informed through clear progress reports and issue documentation.
• Interpret engineering drawings, installation instructions, technical specifications, and AC/DC schematics.
• Promote safe work practices and compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and customer site rules.
• Share field lessons learned to improve installation methods, training, and future project execution.

What you bring

• At least five years of direct, hands-on GIS installation experience.
• Direct experience with GIS commissioning, testing, startup, or readiness for energization.
• Experience leading field crews or contractors, including people who do not report directly to you.
• Working knowledge of high voltage substations, GIS construction, and field project execution.
• GIS or substation construction management or project management experience.
• The ability to read technical drawings and schematics and work through both electrical and mechanical installation issues.
• Strong customer communication, timely follow-through, sound judgment, and a commitment to safe, high-quality work.
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 80% by air and automobile, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to meet customer site access requirements.

An associate, technical, or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is welcome, but directly relevant field experience can qualify you without a degree. Formal OSHA certification is not required.
