Senior Construction Project Manager – Mission-Critical/Electrical Construction

An established commercial general contractor is seeking a Senior Construction Project Manager to lead complex mission-critical projects from preconstruction through commissioning and final closeout. This position requires strong construction project-management experience with an emphasis on electrical infrastructure, power distribution, and the systems that support critical facility operations.

The successful candidate will manage project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, safety, quality, and client relationships while providing knowledgeable oversight of technically complex electrical scopes. Experience with controls systems is highly desired.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple concurrent data center, mission-critical, financial, or technically complex commercial construction projects.
  • Lead projects through preconstruction, procurement, construction, commissioning, turnover, closeout, and warranty.
  • Provide knowledgeable oversight of major electrical scopes, including utility services, substations, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches, grounding, power distribution, and emergency power systems.
  • Coordinate electrical construction with mechanical, structural, architectural, fire-protection, security, and life-safety systems.
  • Oversee the integration of building controls, electrical controls, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC-based systems, and related monitoring technologies.
  • Lead electrical and MEP coordination meetings involving owners, engineers, commissioning agents, subcontractors, vendors, and field leadership.
  • Identify design conflicts, constructability concerns, long-lead electrical equipment risks, sequencing challenges, and potential change orders before they affect project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, procurement plans, cost reports, and subcontractor commitments.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, contracts, change orders, pay applications, equipment documentation, and project records.
  • Coordinate energization plans, equipment startups, commissioning activities, integrated systems testing, and final turnover.
  • Ensure electrical and controls scopes are installed, tested, documented, and commissioned according to project requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, client, and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients and build relationships that support repeat business.
  • Provide value-engineering recommendations without compromising system reliability, redundancy, safety, or operational performance.
  • Mentor project managers, assistant project managers, and other members of the project team as needed.

Position Environment

This position reports to senior operational leadership and carries responsibility for project financial performance and successful execution. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with project superintendents, engineers, electrical subcontractors, controls specialists, equipment manufacturers, commissioning teams, and client representatives.

The company provides modern project-management, scheduling, BIM, and design-build resources. Regional travel to active project sites is required. Candidates located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area are especially desirable due to the concentration of current and anticipated work in that market.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of progressive commercial construction project-management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering data centers, mission-critical facilities, financial facilities, or similarly complex commercial projects.
  • Strong experience managing substantial electrical construction scopes and coordinating electrical infrastructure with other building systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power distribution, emergency power, redundancy, equipment startup, energization, testing, and commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, control sequences, and construction documents.
  • Experience coordinating electrical subcontractors, engineers, equipment vendors, commissioning providers, and field teams.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for project budgets, schedules, contracts, procurement, change management, and client communication.
  • Strong understanding of design-build construction and preconstruction planning.
  • Strong leadership, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety requirements and established project-management practices.
  • Proficiency with construction project-management and scheduling software.

Highly Desired Experience

  • Controls experience involving BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLCs, power monitoring, automation, or critical-facility control systems.
  • Direct experience managing data center construction, upgrades, expansions, or renovations within operating facilities.
  • Experience coordinating utility power, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, transfer systems, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, integrated systems testing, sequence-of-operations verification, and mission-critical turnover requirements.
  • Experience managing electrical infrastructure upgrades where maintaining facility uptime is essential.
  • Proficiency with Procore, BIM coordination, and related construction technologies.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • PMP, LEED, or comparable professional certification.
  • Experience mentoring developing project-management professionals and leading multidisciplinary teams.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Lead technically challenging projects involving sophisticated electrical and controls systems.
  • Take ownership of projects from early planning through energization, commissioning, and final turnover.
  • Work directly with experienced electrical, engineering, construction, and commissioning professionals.
  • Join an established contractor experiencing continued growth within the data center and mission-critical markets.
  • Influence project execution within a collaborative environment where experienced leaders can make an immediate impact.
  • Build long-term client relationships while helping deliver reliable facilities that support critical operations.

Qualified candidates are invited to submit a resume along with a brief description of the most complex mission-critical or electrical construction project they have managed.
