Job Summary:

The Design Engineer I is responsible for performing engineering design on a variety of engineering tasks with ongoing supervision. The Design Engineer will work closely with other senior engineers to receive technical guidance on typical engineering assignments tasks which are not familiar to the Design Engineer I.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applies technical knowledge to designs and ensures projects meet specifications
  • Communicates challenges with regard to scope, cost, schedule and quality
  • Works with Designers and Drafters to complete design packages
  • Gains an understanding of CAD programs and the software analysis tools utilized in engineering design
  • Supports the preparation of simple designs or small portions of larger projects, including calculations and drawings
  • Leads the development of their discipline's design on simple projects, and supports complex projects, including simple technical analyses
  • Interacts with clients on a limited basis
  • Understands and applies appropriate industry codes, standards, and regulations
  • Conducts communications in a professional and clear manner; communications are timely and in an appropriate format for the topic.
  • Identifies information to be communicated to the client and project stakeholders through team leads and project managers.
  • Self-checks work assignments prior to submitting for review, completes work with minimal errors. Participates in peer reviews and QC reviews.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited university
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design or GIS Design is a plus
  • Strong work ethic with desire to work in a production environment
  • Working knowledge of basic software programs such as Microsoft Office and ArcGIS
  • Skill to use hand-eye coordination, visual (near) acuity and depth perception.
  • Skill to use effective verbal and listening communications.
  • Ability to read, understand and closely follow both client and ENTRUST data standards and practices.
  • Ability to concisely communicate technical concepts within the scope of their assignment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written material of a technical nature.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, plan daily activities, evaluate new situations, and respond accordingly.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
