Job Summary:

The Survey Field Technician demonstrates a basic knowledge of survey computations, types of surveys, field operations, and the principles of the profession. The individual in this position is familiar with field equipment and survey procedures, field note taking, plan/plat reading and possesses a working knowledge and application of standard field equipment. This individual must have the ability to work in difficult field conditions in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·      Assist the Survey Field Lead in performing field work for a variety of surveys including but not limited to Topographic, Boundary, Planimetric, ALTA/NSPS, Right-of-Way, Control Network, Location, GPS, profile and cross-section, Construction Stake-Out, and As-Built

·      Checking and making basic field adjustments, care, cleaning, and use of a variety of surveying tools and equipment

·      Tasks including staking and marking, clearing and cutting line, taping, leveling, traversing, compass reading, making field notes and sketches

·      Basic surveying computations

·      Using a data collector to enter field data and produce positional information

·      Checking of field notes

·      Basic plan/plat reading

Required Qualifications:

·      Preferred: NSPS/CST Level 1

·      Must have own vehicle, clean driving record, and ability to travel as needed

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Make continuous or repetitive hand-arm movement to send signals to a survey crew
  • Physical capability and willingness to work outdoors on project sites that may extend several miles, carry equipment, and walk throughout the day
  • Move objects 20-50 pounds long distances
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements and dust
  • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
  • Work various shifts, weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces
