The Sr. GIS Product Lead is a team leadership and highly collaborative technical role. This position maintains and executes technical vision, practices, ongoing support of GIS, and data systems. This includes client and in-house support. This position supervises junior and senior GIS personnel and will manage them in support of client vision, new product development, and support of existing products. They will act as a champion and agent of change for product line, operations, or infrastructure within client organization by collaborating with client stakeholders, business development, managers, technical teams, product owners, directors, and IT. Candidate should be someone who has achieved expertise in relevant vertical skillset and has proven track record broadening into other aspects of business and tech.

This position is responsible for influencing and overseeing client solutions, data fidelity, process workflows, process automation, QA/QC of data products and services, and ensuring all client directives are met in a prioritized and timely manner. They are expected to make important high impact decisions and recommendations that are considered authoritative with respect to clients, internal organization, and general practices. 


  • Lead the development and execution of the product roadmap for GIS software, ensuring alignment with client and company goals and needs.
  • Manage a GIS support team and provide mentorship and guidance to ensure successful product development.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed of industry trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape, and use that information to identify new product opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as software development, business development, marketing, and client support to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Work with the UX/UI team to design and develop user-friendly interfaces that meet client needs.
  • Manage the product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch, ensuring that products are delivered on time, within budget, and with high quality.
  • Conduct user testing and gather feedback to continuously improve the product and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain product documentation, including user manuals, release notes, and training materials.
  • Work closely with business development and marketing teams to develop go-to-market strategies, product positioning, and messaging.
  • Analyze product usage data to track performance, identify areas for improvement, and develop recommendations for product enhancements.


  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or a related field.
  • Work experience: At least 5 years of experience in product management, preferably in GIS software development.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in GIS software and tools, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and/or other commercial and open-source software. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or R, and knowledge of web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Leadership skills: Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage stakeholders, and drive product development from ideation to launch.
  • Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Analytical skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Project lead skills: Experience in leading projects, developing project plans, and executing on project deliverables.
  • Customer focus: A deep understanding of customer needs, with the ability to translate customer requirements into product features and enhancements.
  • Industry knowledge: Familiarity with the GIS industry, market trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified GIS Professional (GISP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) can be a plus.

Benefits & Salary:

  • This position pays between $90,000 and $105,000 annually and is an exempt position.
  • Benefits offered include company sponsored medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually.
  • Full time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours.
  • May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company.
