Purpose of the job: 

This position is responsible for generating design drawings for the natural gas utilities industry that adhere to client and ENE standards. Tasks include evaluating field conditions, collection and evaluation of record drawings, creation of detailed dimensional drawings including 2D plan, profile, and section views, reporting, documentation, cost estimating, and permitting as required for completion of gas distribution and associated projects. Distribution Designers may visit project sites to discuss the proposed alignment with client representatives including construction managers, design managers, and project managers, and are expected to present themselves in a professional manner. 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Gather existing plans, GIS data, aerial imagery, field notes, and survey data to assemble existing conditions drawings with minimal supervision
  • Interpret various types of drawings and schematics
  • Set up base files and maintain an overall project file structure Conduct field site visits to gather data required for project plan development
  • Draft detailed dimensional 2D drawings as required for completion of projects
  • Work with the internal and external project team to generate design package that meets client and industry standards.
  • Modify drawings as required by project stakeholders.
  • Perform peer reviews for completed drawing packages prior to submittal
  • Communicate with clients and other external stakeholders both written and verbally in a professional manner.
  • May be responsible for leading a body of work or small group of Drafters and CAD Specialists (act as a POC for Design Coordinator)
  • Applies technical knowledge to designs and ensures projects meet specifications
  • Learn new design applications as required
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary
  • Overtime may be required at times


 

Education, Certifications and/or Experience Required:

  • 1-3 years of design experience in natural gas utilities or related industries
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Knowledge of Smallworld and/or ESRI GIS platforms is a plus
  • Strong work ethic with desire to work in a production environment
  • Valid driver's license and transportation
  • Ability to read, speak and write fluently in English


 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (8-10 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
