A growing, mission-driven Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Urgent Care Lead Physician to lead an expanding urgent care program serving one of Southern California's most diverse communities.

This newly created physician leadership role combines direct patient care with clinical oversight, provider mentorship, and operational leadership. Reporting to the incoming Chief Medical Officer, you'll partner closely with executive and operational leadership to strengthen clinical quality, optimize patient access, mentor providers, and help guide the continued growth of the urgent care department.

• Base Salary: $275,000–$300,000

• 80% clinical / 20% administrative leadership role

The Opportunity

The urgent care program opened in late 2025 and is entering an exciting phase of growth. Currently operating Tuesday through Saturday, the organization plans to expand to seven-day coverage and, ultimately, a 24-hour urgent care model.

As the Lead Physician, you'll play a central role in guiding that growth while providing outstanding patient care and establishing the clinical standards that will shape the department for years to come.

Working alongside an experienced Director of Operations and the incoming Chief Medical Officer, you'll help build clinical processes, mentor providers, improve workflows, and ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based urgent care in a fast-paced outpatient environment
• Serve as the primary clinical resource for physicians and advanced practice providers
• Lead clinical huddles, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
• Promote standardized clinical protocols and evidence-based practice
• Partner with operations leadership to improve patient flow, access, and overall patient experience

Provider Leadership

• Provide oversight and mentorship to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
• Support provider recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management
• Participate in provider scheduling and PTO oversight
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, team-based culture

Program Growth & Quality Improvement

• Develop and refine clinical workflows and operational best practices
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and peer review activities
• Collaborate with leadership to expand urgent care services and improve access
• Partner with EMR and IT teams to enhance documentation efficiency and clinical workflows
• Support strategic initiatives that improve patient outcomes and provider satisfaction

The Facility

The urgent care center is designed to support efficient, team-based care and includes:

• 20 modern exam rooms
• On-site radiology
• On-site phlebotomy
• Dedicated medical assistants
• Spanish-speaking support staff
• Professional interpreter services

Qualifications

Required

• MD or DO
• Board Certified or Board Eligible
• Eligible for unrestricted California medical licensure
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, or other acute care experience
• Previous physician leadership or supervisory experience
• Comfortable practicing in a high-volume outpatient setting

Preferred

• Three to five years of post-training experience
• Experience leading physicians or advanced practice providers
• Community health or FQHC experience
• Spanish language skills are highly desirable but not required

Leadership experience gained as a Chief Resident or in similar physician leadership roles will be considered.

Schedule

The current schedule is:

Tuesday–Saturday | 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.

As the urgent care program continues to expand, scheduling may evolve to support future seven-day operations while maintaining a balanced combination of clinical and administrative responsibilities.
