Our client is an industry leading manufacturing company with an immediate need for a Senior Accountant for its facility located in the southwestern Minneapolis metro area.

You'll work alongside an experienced senior-level accountant to ensure comprehensive knowledge transfer and continuity as the department evolves. The Senior Accountant position is responsible for personal property and sales/use tax management, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and supporting an efficient 2-day month-end close process. This role requires someone who can work independently while being part of a collaborative team.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manage personal property tax, sales and use tax compliance, analysis, and audits
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of operating accounts, payroll accounts, savings accounts, and ASC 842 lease accounting
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and accuracy, ensuring proper account classification
  • Research accounting regulations, process improvements, and complex technical accounting issues
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
  • Generate and post month-end closing entries supporting a 2-day close process
  • Research regulations and apply for tax licenses in complex jurisdictions
  • Supervise and support sales tax and property tax audits
  • Compile information and provide workpapers for external auditors and tax accountants
  • Serve as informal mentor to team members on GAAP requirements and process improvements
  • Document and implement financial controls, policies and procedures
  • Lead or participate in special projects related to the Microsoft Business Central implementation and process optimization


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required (or business degree with equivalent accounting experience)
  • CPA or similar professional credential strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and application of accounting principles
  • Experience with ERP/accounting software; Microsoft Dynamics experience a plus
  • Fixed asset accounting experience required
  • Property tax and sales/use tax expertise strongly preferred
  • Experience with sales tax software (Avatax, Avalara) a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills essential
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills with proven ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with ability to produce accurate, thorough work
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently without micromanagement
  • Goal-oriented mindset with passion for continuous improvement

Work Environment: This is an in-office position with occasional flexibility
