Principal Power Hardware Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Principal Hardware Power Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced hardware systems. This role focuses on power systems, thermal management, and system reliability for next-generation platforms, including edge servers, AI, and high-performance computing.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the evaluation, design, and implementation of hardware and power systems from concept to production.
  • Develop and manage power budgets across motherboards, systems, and rack-level AC supply components.
  • Review and evaluate power systems from vendors, including DC/DC converters, hot plug circuitry, and AC/DC CRPS supplies.
  • Conduct PCB design and layout reviews, including Cadence/Allegro and DC/DC power distribution analysis.
  • Support internal product development by writing specifications, reviewing proposals, and validating PCB/power integration.
  • Perform failure analysis and provide root cause support in collaboration with QA and contract manufacturers.
  • Execute power evaluations using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, data loggers, power meters, electronic loads).
  • Contribute to mechanical, thermal, safety, and EMC compliance design reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design excellence.


Technologies & Tools


  • Embedded power conversion for high-performance CPUs/GPUs.
  • Server architectures ranging from <100W edge systems to 100KW rack-level solutions.
  • Operating systems: Linux, ESX, Windows.
  • Lab tools: oscilloscopes, power meters, data loggers, electronic loads.
  • Design tools: Cadence/Allegro, LTSpice, Mathcad/Prime, Excel.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in power and circuit design, system integration, and complex hardware development.
  • Strong knowledge of high-power CPU/GPU power conversion and embedded power systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence/Allegro, LTSpice, Mathcad/Prime, TINA-TI, or equivalent tools.
  • Familiarity with Intel power specifications, hot-swap circuits, and compliance requirements (safety, EMI, EMC).
  • Experience in server configuration, stress testing, and diagnostics across Linux, ESX, and Windows environments.
  • Knowledge of industry certifications and standards (UL62368, CE, NEC).
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to mentor and guide engineers.
