Job Overview
The Electrical Quality Engineer ensures product quality and reliability by developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance processes within electrical assembly and wiring environments. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and compliance with industry standards. The position primarily focuses on electrical systems—wiring, harnesses, and cabling—but may also include mechanical and fabrication processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee quality aspects of electrical and production projects from development through testing.
- Inspect and verify wiring, harness, and cable assembly processes to ensure compliance with IPC/WHMA standards.
- Analyze data, resolve issues, and maintain accurate inspection and test records.
- Define and justify machine test requirements and acceptance limits.
- Manage Work In Progress (WIP) and Operation Acceptance Test (OAT) data and prepare performance reports.
- Lead root cause analysis, corrective actions (8D, CAPA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Continuous Improvement team to reduce quality costs and enhance process capability.
- Ensure materials traceability and manage Pre-Check and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) reporting.
- Coordinate with Engineering to process design and “redline” drawing changes.
- Update and maintain work instructions related to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Conduct internal audits, report findings, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Drive supplier quality improvement through inspection, data analysis, and corrective feedback.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Associate degree with relevant hands-on experience may be considered.
Experience
- 7–10 years in a heavy industrial or electrical manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years in a Quality Engineering role focused on electrical systems, wiring, or assembly.
- Hands-on experience with wire terminations, harnesses, and cabling required.
- Experience in board or transformer manufacturing a strong plus.
Certifications & Standards
- ASQ CQE or ASQ SSGB certification preferred.
- Familiarity with industry standards:
- IPC-A-610 – Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 – Cable & Wire Harness Assembly Requirements
- ANSI/ESD S20.20 – Electrostatic Discharge Control
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems
Skills
- Strong understanding of GD&T, CMM measurement, and inspection layout techniques.
- Proficient in quality tools and methodologies (PPAP, 8D, CAPA).
- Skilled in problem-solving, data analysis, and process improvement.
