Scope of Position
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality functions to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing operations. This role focuses on maximizing production capability, optimizing asset reliability, and driving capital and process improvements while developing technical talent and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Engineering Manager partners closely with Operations to deliver business objectives and sustain high-performance manufacturing systems.
Responsibilities
Leadership & People Development
- Lead and develop Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality teams to support plant operational goals.
- Recruit, onboard, and retain technical talent; manage performance, employee development, compensation, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Engineering & Maintenance Excellence
- Ensure plant facilities, utilities, and production equipment are properly maintained to support safe and reliable operations.
- Provide engineering expertise and technical resources to sustain and improve plant production.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for equipment, process, and quality-related issues.
Capital & Financial Management
- Own and manage the plant capital budget and engineering expense budget.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize capital investment opportunities in partnership with operations and technical teams.
- Lead Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) development, submission, and execution.
- Manage the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) budget, including technical group salaries, maintenance materials, utilities, and building and grounds expenses.
Project & Process Improvement
- Lead and support capital projects from concept through implementation, ensuring scope, cost, and timeline adherence.
- Coordinate communication and execution of manufacturing, engineering, and technical initiatives.
- Drive process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and support site safety and EH&S programs.
- Partner with Quality and Operations to maintain and improve product and process quality.
- Support audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective action implementation.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years of supervisory or people management experience.
- Demonstrated success in project management, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
