Scope of Position


The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all Safety policies and procedures and reinforcing Safety as a core organizational value. This role ensures all food safety, quality, and regulatory standards are consistently followed to reduce variability in products and processes. The Sanitation Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and compliant facility.


This individual will develop and direct sanitation activities at the company’s facility, protecting the company’s brands through standardized, sustainable sanitation programs that are efficient, effective, and consistent. As a member of the plant leadership team, the Sanitation Supervisor will lead, coach, and develop all sanitation personnel to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures are adhered to across assigned departments or areas.


This position supports sanitation functions across the entire facility, rotating across all shifts—including days and evenings—and establishing a schedule that provides oversight of each cleanup shift.


Responsibilities


  • Maintain a safe and healthy workplace; adhere to all company safety policies and procedures and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Follow safe work practices, GMPs, and sanitation standards; maintain sanitary conditions and protect product quality.
  • Report any conditions or practices that could adversely impact food safety, product quality, or personnel safety.
  • Demonstrate compliance with regulatory and procedural standards, including MFI, FSMA, and USDA requirements.
  • Manage all sanitation programs, including:
  • Cleaning the entire facility to microbiological standards
  • Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS)
  • Environmental, end-of-cycle, and operational cleaning
  • Cross-contamination prevention
  • Special event cleaning (construction, incident response)
  • Janitorial and housekeeping activities
  • Collaborate with chemical suppliers to implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Directly supervise the Sanitation team.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation chemicals and cleaning chemistry.
  • Develop, validate, and verify SSOPs and sanitation work instructions.
  • Apply the 7 Steps of Wet Sanitation, as well as Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) processes.
  • Develop Facility Construction Food Safety Plans and oversee sanitation components of construction-related activities.
  • Ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Validate, verify, and monitor sanitation systems and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP prerequisite programs, including Sanitation and GMPs.
  • Apply sanitary design principles and maintain zoning/separation within the facility.
  • Ensure personnel safety requirements are followed consistently.
  • Manage the sanitation budget effectively.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead sanitation personnel, ensuring the team is equipped to execute sanitation principles.
  • Coach and mentor Sanitation, Production, and Quality Supervisors.
  • Provide research, guidance, and technical support to plant leadership related to sanitation and food safety.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to drive sanitation and food safety objectives.
  • Ensure sanitation processes are adequately staffed and executed within the required timeframes.
  • Demonstrate ongoing compliance with MFI, FSMA, and USDA standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all SQF principles relevant to the position as defined by the SQF Practitioner.


Qualifications


  • High School Diploma.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to work in a multi-task, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and shifts.
  • Willingness to attend off-site training.
  • Ability to perform physical duties daily, including walking, standing, crouching, lifting 25–35 lbs, twisting, climbing, and reaching.

  • Work environments may include areas with controlled temperatures, refrigeration, and elevated noise levels requiring PPE.
