Scope of Position
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance operations within the facility to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of plant equipment and infrastructure. This role oversees maintenance planning, equipment repairs, preventive maintenance programs, and capital projects while ensuring operations run efficiently and safely.
The Maintenance Manager also manages the Repair & Maintenance (R&M) budget, oversees capital expenditures, and works closely with cross-functional teams to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operational Leadership
- Lead and supervise maintenance personnel responsible for maintaining plant equipment, machinery, and facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
- Plan, schedule, and ensure completion of preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Partner with production and other departments to support operational schedules and plant performance.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to SQF food safety standards and all regulatory requirements.
- Report and escalate all food safety and employee safety concerns to appropriate leadership.
- Ensure equipment maintenance practices follow established engineering and safety standards.
Budget & Capital Project Management
- Manage the Repair & Maintenance (R&M) budget and monitor maintenance costs relative to production output.
- Plan, lead, and manage plant capital projects, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
- Provide regular updates to plant leadership regarding project progress, expenditures, and timelines.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop maintenance team members.
- Assign work, evaluate performance, and address employee concerns or performance issues.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
Maintenance Systems & Asset Management
- Maintain spare parts inventory and coordinate ordering of maintenance materials.
- Ensure preventive maintenance programs are reviewed and updated annually.
- Support equipment installation, upgrades, and decommissioning activities.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred
Experience
- 5–7 years of mechanical and electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working in food manufacturing or regulated production environments preferred
- Ammonia refrigeration and industrial refrigeration experience strongly preferred
