About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Solar Technician to support the operations and maintenance of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) projects. This role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, and ensuring optimal performance of large-scale solar installations. The ideal candidate will have experience with high-voltage systems, inverters, and data acquisition systems, and will be committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on utility-scale solar PV systems, including modules, inverters, transformers, and monitoring equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maximize energy production.
- Monitor system performance using SCADA and other data acquisition systems; identify and address performance anomalies.
- Conduct testing and analysis of electrical systems, including insulation resistance, continuity, and grounding tests.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), and ensure compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards.
- Document maintenance activities, test results, and equipment status in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement system upgrades and improvements.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools; coordinate with procurement for replenishment as needed.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; associate degree or technical certification in electrical, mechanical, or renewable energy technology preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in solar PV system maintenance, with a focus on utility-scale installations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Experience with medium-voltage (MV) electrical systems and components.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and data analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in the renewable energy industry.
- Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions; physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification or equivalent.
- OSHA 30-hour General Industry certification.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) integration with solar PV.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
