Job Title: Project Engineer – Renewable Energy
Industry: Renewable Energy (Utility-Scale Solar, Wind, and Energy Storage)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We are seeking driven and detail-oriented Project Engineers to support the end-to-end development and execution of renewable energy projects across North America. This is a dynamic, cross-functional role at the intersection of engineering, project development, and construction—ideal for professionals passionate about clean energy and ready to roll up their sleeves to move projects from concept to reality.
As a Project Engineer, you will contribute technical expertise across multiple stages of utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects, from early-stage development and site optimization through design, permitting, interconnection, procurement, and pre-construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support technical development of renewable energy projects including PV, wind, and BESS from feasibility through to pre-construction
- Develop and review preliminary project layouts, single-line diagrams, and technical design packages using tools like AutoCAD, PVSyst, or WindPRO
- Collaborate with Development and Origination teams to evaluate potential sites, identify constraints, and recommend optimal design approaches
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of interconnection requests with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and support the process through to agreement execution
- Conduct technical due diligence for new site acquisitions, including transmission and grid capacity reviews, land use assessments, and permitting requirements
- Assist in the preparation of CAPEX/OPEX estimates, equipment selection comparisons, and technical input for financial models
- Manage external engineering consultants, surveyors, and other third parties to ensure deliverables meet technical standards and project timelines
- Monitor evolving codes, regulations, interconnection policies, and industry trends to inform design strategy and mitigate risk
- Provide internal stakeholders with engineering support throughout key project milestones, including permitting hearings, community meetings, and investor reviews
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or similar)
- 3+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry, preferably with utility-scale solar, wind, or energy storage projects
- Proficiency in drafting/design software (AutoCAD required; PVSyst, WindPRO, or Helioscope preferred)
- Experience supporting generation interconnection applications and transmission grid analysis (ISO/RTO experience a plus)
- Understanding of site development constraints including environmental permitting, topography, and grid access
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA, ASCE)
- Familiarity with project scheduling tools and ability to coordinate across cross-functional teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Bonus Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Master’s degree or PE license
- Experience with energy yield modeling, including generation of P50/P90 scenarios
- Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) design and modeling
- Background in managing engineering vendors or EPC coordination
- Experience in land development, permitting, or construction oversight
