Job Title: Vice President (or Sr. Director) of Construction – Renewable Energy

Location: Remote in Canada with travel possible

 

Job Overview:

The Vice President (Sr. Director) of Construction – Renewable Energy will lead and oversee all aspects of construction operations for renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and battery storage. This role is responsible for strategic planning, execution, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:


Leadership & Strategy:

  • Execute construction strategies for renewable energy projects, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage construction teams, including project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
  • Collaborate with executives and key stakeholders to drive growth and operational excellence.


Project Management & Execution:

  • Oversee multiple renewable energy construction projects from pre-construction to commissioning.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to contractual agreements.
  • Manage and be accountable for risk assessment, procurement, scheduling, and contract negotiations.


Operations & Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce construction standards, best practices, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local regulations, as well as environmental and permitting requirements.
  • Optimize resource allocation, equipment, and workforce management to maximize efficiency.


Financial & Budget Management:

  • Manage and be accountable for construction budgets, forecasts, and support cost-control measures.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.


Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:

  • Serve as a primary liaison between construction teams, developers, regulatory agencies, and investors.
  • Provide regular project updates and reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Foster strong relationships with external partners to support project success.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in large infrastructure construction management, with at least 10 years in renewable energy preferable.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large-scale construction projects and teams.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, permitting, and regulatory processes in the renewable energy sector.
  • Proficiency in project management software, construction scheduling tools, and budgeting systems.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of renewable energy financing structures and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
  • Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts and EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management).
