The organization develops, finances, constructs, and operates renewable energy infrastructure and is expanding its team to support a significant pipeline of projects in British Columbia and other Canadian markets.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead and grow the company’s British Columbia business.

This is a British Columbia-based role with regular travel to project sites in the Cariboo Region and periodic travel to the company’s corporate office.

You will own a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects on Crown land in British Columbia representing several hundred megawatts of potential development.

Your mandate will be to advance these projects from their current stage to bid-ready for an upcoming BC Hydro call for power and ultimately toward ready-to-build status.

You will oversee every aspect of that effort, including First Nations partnerships and community relations, Crown land tenure, permitting, interconnection, consultant management, project economics, and bid preparation.

You will be supported by experienced development, engineering, legal, and finance teams while maintaining significant autonomy over how the British Columbia business is built.

Position Summary

You will lead all aspects of development for the British Columbia portfolio, from early-stage Crown land tenure through submission into a future BC Hydro call for power and onward toward construction readiness.

The role combines long-term relationship building with First Nations and host communities, hands-on management of provincial and local regulatory processes, and the discipline required to manage a complex development program against fixed external deadlines.

A successful candidate will understand that meaningful Indigenous partnership is fundamental to successful project development in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities

First Nations, Community & Stakeholder Relations

• Lead and manage relationships with First Nations whose asserted traditional territories overlap project sites, building upon existing engagement and establishing new relationships where required.
• Negotiate and structure Indigenous equity participation that meets or exceeds applicable BC Hydro requirements and secure the supporting documentation required for bid submissions.
• Build and maintain relationships with host communities, regional districts, municipal officials, grazing and range tenure holders, and other land users whose interests overlap project sites.
• Represent the company at council meetings, community sessions, open houses, industry events, and other stakeholder engagements throughout British Columbia.

Tenure, Permitting & Environmental Approvals

• Maintain and advance Crown land tenure from existing investigative licenses through the longer-term tenure required for project development, bidding, financing, and construction.
• Manage provincial and local authorizations, including applicable BC Energy Regulator requirements, regional district land-use approvals, rezoning or temporary use permits, Agricultural Land Commission approvals where applicable, and environmentally sensitive development permit areas.
• Develop and execute a permitting and project-definition strategy that supports successful offtake bidding, project schedules, and project economics.
• Retain and direct qualified environmental professionals and oversee environmental, archaeological, and heritage assessment programs.
• Identify potential species-at-risk, riparian, grassland, old-growth, and other environmental constraints early enough to inform project layout and development strategy.

Interconnection

• Own the utility interconnection pathway from initial engagement through submission and study processes.
• Manage interconnection requests, feasibility study agreements, required deposits, deficiency responses, and associated deadlines.
• Work with internal engineering resources and external consultants to evaluate connection capacity, technical requirements, and connection costs.
• Incorporate interconnection findings into project layouts, schedules, and financial models.

Bid Preparation & Delivery

• Own the bid-readiness checklist and critical path for upcoming utility procurement opportunities.
• Establish milestones and hold internal and external contributors accountable to required deadlines.
• Coordinate technical, commercial, financial, and legal inputs for call-for-power submissions.
• Manage requirements related to site control, energy production estimates, capital costs, bid security, schedules, and other submission requirements.
• Work with the finance team on project financial models and bid pricing and understand the key assumptions and variables affecting project economics.

Consultants, Budget & Reporting

• Scope, retain, and manage external consultants across engineering, environmental, archaeology, land, legal, and related disciplines.
• Oversee consultant task orders, fees, schedules, scopes, and deliverables.
• Own the British Columbia development budget and monitor spending against approved plans.
• Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding project progress, key risks, upcoming milestones, budget performance, and decisions requiring executive input.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Experience in energy or infrastructure project development, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead role with direct accountability for a project or portfolio.
• Direct experience developing projects in British Columbia, including Crown land tenure and provincial permitting.
• Experience preparing or supporting a submission into a BC Hydro call for power is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating Indigenous partnership, commercial participation, or equity agreements.
• Experience developing meaningful relationships with First Nations and Indigenous communities is especially important for this role.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, planning, business, or a related field.
• A professional designation such as P.Eng., RPP, RPBio, or similar is considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of utility interconnection processes in British Columbia.
• Experience with ground-mounted solar PV development is preferred.
• Candidates with experience in wind, run-of-river hydro, transmission, or other infrastructure development will also be considered where they bring strong British Columbia regulatory and Indigenous relations experience.

• Strong organizational, analytical, time-management, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities against firm external deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Credibility and confidence communicating with First Nations leadership, municipal and regional government officials, consultants, community stakeholders, and senior executives.
• Comfortable serving as the senior company representative in British Columbia while collaborating closely with teams located elsewhere.
• Entrepreneurial and hands-on approach with the ability to operate effectively without daily supervision.
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout British Columbia, including to remote project sites, as well as periodically to other company locations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with GIS tools such as QGIS is considered an asset.

Compensation

The expected compensation range for this position is $135,000 to $175,000 per year, depending on experience.

The position also includes participation in an annual bonus program, potential milestone-based incentive compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package.
