About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Vice President of Origination to lead and scale our commercial origination efforts in utility-scale renewable energy. Reporting directly to the executive team, this senior role will be responsible for building long-term revenue streams through the negotiation of power purchase agreements (PPAs), customer partnerships, and market entry strategies across North America.
The VP of Origination will play a central role in driving business growth, shaping go-to-market strategy, and fostering high-impact relationships with utilities, corporates, and other key market participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead origination and structuring of long-term power sales agreements including utility PPAs, corporate PPAs, tolling agreements, and other offtake structures.
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies aligned with the company’s growth objectives across utility, C&I, and public sector markets.
- Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with offtakers, aggregators, energy traders, and project partners.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new market opportunities across multiple ISO/RTO territories and deregulated markets.
- Serve as a key commercial voice on project development teams, collaborating closely with finance, legal, policy, and development leads.
- Represent the company in high-stakes negotiations and at key industry events, conferences, and forums.
- Lead the origination team with a focus on talent development, goal setting, pipeline management, and cross-functional integration.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, competitive dynamics, and customer preferences to continuously refine strategy.
- Contribute to the evaluation of M&A opportunities and strategic partnerships from a commercial lens.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in renewable energy origination, with a focus on negotiating utility-scale PPAs and commercial transactions.
- Proven track record of closing complex deals across multiple energy markets in the U.S. (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, etc.).
- Deep understanding of energy markets, contract structures, risk mitigation strategies, and project finance principles.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills; proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at the executive level.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and strategic planning abilities.
- Experience building and managing high-performing commercial teams in a high-growth or entrepreneurial environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 25–40%) to meet with partners, attend conferences, and support deal execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working for or with IPPs, utilities, C&I buyers, or energy marketers.
- Familiarity with energy trading desks, REC markets, and hedging mechanisms.
- Experience with storage-plus-renewables or hybrid project offtake structures.
