Operations & Maintenance Technical Manager

The Opportunity

Our client is a growing renewable energy organization specializing in the engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across North America.

They are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Operations & Maintenance Technical Manager to support a growing portfolio of utility-scale solar PV and BESS assets.

This position will work closely with internal engineering, construction, procurement, finance, HSE, and business development teams, as well as external consultants, suppliers, service providers, and subcontractors.

The Position

The Operations & Maintenance Technical Manager is responsible for the operational and strategic management of Operations & Maintenance activities for PV and BESS projects throughout North America.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the technical availability, performance, safety, and economic efficiency of assets under management through effective operations management, structured maintenance programs, strong field-service capabilities, and close coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

The position will also support O&M business development activities by contributing technical expertise to service development, operational feasibility assessments, pricing, and customer-specific proposals.

Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor O&M service technician activities for PV and BESS assets throughout the operational lifecycle.
• Oversee the work of Technical Asset Managers.
• Ensure the technical availability, performance, and operational safety of assets under management in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate and manage internal teams, external service partners, subcontractors, and specialist service providers during ongoing operations.
• Develop, improve, and lead service technician structures for the efficient execution of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
• Plan, organize, and follow up on maintenance, repair, and inspection activities, including fault management.
• Monitor key performance indicators and budget targets and implement appropriate measures to drive continuous improvement.
• Analyze operational data, system faults, and performance indicators to identify technical and organizational improvement opportunities.
• Support the creation and ongoing development of operating, maintenance, and escalation concepts, as well as standardized processes.
• Prepare analyses, reports, and decision-making materials for internal leadership, customers, and external partners.
• Support O&M sales activities in close coordination with Business Development, including the development of technical solution concepts, operational feasibility assessments, and customer-specific service proposals.
• Coordinate activities across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Finance, HSE, Business Development, and other internal functions.

Strategic Responsibilities

• Further develop O&M structures, processes, and control mechanisms to improve asset availability, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Establish scalable service technician structures, leadership models, and deployment strategies to support a growing O&M portfolio.
• Identify and implement optimization opportunities related to maintenance, operations management, spare parts management, and service provider coordination.
• Participate in the development of service concepts, operating standards, and scalable solutions for expanding O&M portfolios.
• Collaborate closely with Business Development to develop marketable service concepts and support proposal and growth activities.
• Monitor technical, regulatory, and market developments to continuously improve operational O&M performance.
• Recommend and oversee training for O&M technical teams in areas such as thermography, medium-voltage work, inverter maintenance, and related technical disciplines.
• Identify opportunities to expand internal capabilities and increase the self-performance of O&M activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
