Position: Planning Engineer - Grid Analytics & Modernization

Location: Vaughan, ON (Hybrid – 2 days onsite)

Term: 12-month contract with strong likelihood of extension and potential conversion to permanent full-time

Our client is a major Ontario utility is seeking a Planning Engineer to support grid modernization, load forecasting, and DER/EV planning initiatives. This role combines distribution system planning with data-driven analytics to improve long-term infrastructure decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support distribution system planning, load forecasting, and feeder-level analysis
• Work with datasets such as load, customer, DER, EV, and reliability metrics
• Contribute to planning models, scenario analysis, and capacity assessments
• Support implementation and adoption of planning/forecasting tools
• Coordinate with internal engineering teams and external vendors
• Help translate technical outputs into actionable planning insights

Qualifications:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems focus preferred)
• Utility or distribution planning experience
• Exposure to load studies, system planning, or DER interconnections
• Strong analytical skills; advanced Excel required
• Experience with Power BI, SQL, Python/R, or planning tools is an asset
• Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
