Hybrid: 3 Days in Office

Our client, a commercial P&C insurer serving small businesses, seeks a Head of Actuarial to lead pricing and reserving. This role combines strategy with hands-on responsibility for models, rate filings, and reserve estimates. The successful candidate will build actuarial infrastructure, inform underwriting and financial decisions, and validate actuarial logic within an automated underwriting environment.

Compensation:

$200,000-$300,000 Salary + Bonus + Equity

Responsibilities

• Own pricing strategy and execution, including rate indications, rating plan design, state rate filings, loss trends, and rate adequacy by class, segment, and geography.
• Lead quarterly reserve estimates, IBNR analysis, loss development studies, and reserve adequacy testing; support financial reporting, statutory filings, audits, and reinsurance discussions.
• Build scalable actuarial data pipelines, modeling standards, and documentation; validate pricing and risk-scoring logic in automated underwriting systems and present recommendations to executive leadership, the board, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• FCAS or ACAS
• Must have 10+ years of actuarial experience in commercial P&C insurance, including direct experience in both pricing and reserving, and experience in small commercial insurance or businessowners policy (BOP) lines.
• Must have independently owned rate filings and reserve estimates, including experience with state insurance department filing requirements and processes.
• Hands-on technical expertise in generalized linear models (GLMs), loss development triangles, rate indication methodology, and reserve adequacy testing is required.
• Experience integrating actuarial models into real-time underwriting or quoting systems, including API-driven or AI agent environments.
