LTL Linehaul Engineer / Analyst - Remote
Apply for this job

Build the Future of a National LTL Network

Our client is seeking an LTL Linehaul Engineer / Analyst to help design, analyze, and optimize a national Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) transportation network.

This is a unique opportunity for an analytical and operationally minded professional who understands how LTL freight moves through terminals and linehaul operations and has the engineering, mathematical, or analytical skills to determine how the network can operate more efficiently.

You will play a key role in evaluating linehaul routes, terminal-to-terminal freight flows, schedules, capacity, miles, costs, service requirements, and network design.

This is not simply a reporting or data-analysis position. You will use data and engineering principles to answer questions such as:

How should freight move through the network?

What is the most efficient linehaul route?

Where can we reduce miles and transportation costs?

How can we improve trailer utilization and network capacity?

What changes would improve both service and profitability?

What You Will Do

  • Analyze and optimize a national LTL linehaul network.
  • Design and evaluate terminal-to-terminal routes and freight flows.
  • Analyze direct versus relay linehaul opportunities.
  • Evaluate terminal locations, freight density, shipment volumes, and geographic coverage.
  • Develop network models and "what-if" scenarios for network changes.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce empty miles, out-of-route miles, and transportation costs.
  • Analyze linehaul schedules, equipment utilization, capacity, and service requirements.
  • Evaluate the operational and financial impact of proposed network changes.
  • Develop analytical models for cost per mile, miles per shipment, utilization, productivity, and network performance.
  • Work closely with LTL Operations, Linehaul, Engineering, Finance, IT, and senior leadership.
  • Translate complex data into practical recommendations that can be implemented in the field.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor network performance.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and greater network efficiency.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate combines LTL transportation experience with strong engineering, analytical, or optimization capabilities.

We're looking for someone who understands both the numbers and the operation.

Required:

  • 3+ years of transportation, logistics, LTL, network analysis, transportation engineering, or optimization experience.
  • Understanding of LTL operations and linehaul transportation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
  • Ability to analyze transportation costs, routes, freight flows, capacity, and network performance.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both operational and executive teams.

Preferred:

  • College Degree in Business, Logistics, or Analytics not required but is a plus
  • Direct LTL industry experience.
  • Experience with LTL terminal networks and linehaul planning.
  • Transportation network optimization or Operations Research experience.
  • Experience with routing or network optimization software.
  • SQL, Python, R, or other programming/analytics experience.
  • Power BI or other business intelligence experience.
  • Transportation Management System (TMS) experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.

The Ideal Candidate

You may currently be working as a:

  • LTL Network Analyst
  • Linehaul Analyst
  • Transportation Analyst
  • Transportation Engineer
  • Industrial Engineer
  • Network Optimization Analyst
  • Network Planning Analyst
  • Operations Research Analyst
  • LTL Network Engineer
