Director of Network Linehaul Operations
Position Overview:
The Director of Network Linehaul Operations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the company’s linehaul network within your regional area of assignment. This role is responsible for optimizing freight movement between terminals, ensuring cost-effective operations, maintaining service quality, and supporting network growth initiatives. The Director of Linehaul partners closely with terminal operations, dispatch, planning, maintenance, and safety teams to deliver exceptional service and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
o Develop and implement the overall linehaul strategy aligned with company goals for service, cost, and network efficiency.
o Analyze freight flow patterns and terminal capacity to optimize routes, schedules, and utilization.
o Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the linehaul network.
Operational Excellence
o Direct daily and long-term linehaul operations include planning, scheduling, and execution of all hub-to-hub movements.
o Monitor on-time performance, trailer utilization, and miles per shipment to ensure efficiency and service compliance.
o Oversee bid and procurement processes for outside carriers, ensuring cost control and service standards.
People Leadership
o Lead and develop a team of regional and national linehaul managers, planners, and dispatchers.
o Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and performance excellence.
o Partner with Human Resources to manage driver recruitment, retention, and training initiatives.
Financial & Analytical Oversight
o Develop and manage the linehaul budget including cost per mile, purchased transportation spend, and network KPIs.
o Leverage data analytics to improve cost control, trailer flow, and equipment utilization.
o Identify and execute cost-saving and productivity initiatives.
Collaboration & Communication
o Work cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, and IT to align network capabilities with customer expectations.
o Represent the linehaul function in executive strategy and performance meetings.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business, or related field (master’s preferred).
